MTV Japan has announced that Lady Gaga is confirmed to perform at its charity show on June 25 in Makuhari Messe, just outside of Tokyo.
This year MTV will hold a Video Music Aid Japan event instead of its annual Video Music Awards Japan. The event will benefit the Japan Red Cross, who are helping victims of Japan’s dual disasters of earthquake and tsunami on March 11.
Lady Gaga has been involved in disaster-relief for Japan since directly after the earthquake and tsunami. Her website started to sell wristbands for charity with “Pray for Japan” on them in both Japanese and English.
The event will be hosted by reigning J-pop champions AKB48 and take place from 6pm-8pm, local time. It will be broadcast live to more than 30 million homes on MTV Japan, MTV Korea, MTV China and MTV Southeast Asia.

Additionally, a special one-hour version of MTV Video Music Aid Japan will air on MTV channels worldwide to over 550 million homes as an installment of MTV’s weekly live music series, MTV World Stage.
After the March 11 disasters MTV decided not to hold its video music awards this year but instead make the event performance and charity based. It will be the culmination of MTV Japan’s Music Of Hope campaign, the channel’s multiplatform response to the March 11 events.

Designed to inspire and rally young people to contribute time or funds to recovery and rebuilding efforts, Music Of Hope features inspirational music videos, live performances, artist interviews, exclusive news and stories about artists and young people who have been impacted by the disaster.
Lady Gaga’s new album, “Born This Way,” will be released globally on May 23.
