Rumor mill: Mac Pros to debute at WWDC

Rumor has it that come that conference in August, commonly known as the World …

Ah yes, your faithful Infinite Loop reporter has drawn the short straw once again and thus he must report the latest from the rumor mill. Rumor has it that come that conference in August, commonly known as the World Wide Developer Conference, Apple will unveil the successor in the pro tower line according to Think Secret. Surprisingly enough the machine will supposedly be coined the Mac Pro and sport Intel Core 2 Duo processors. Reportedly configurations will be unremarkably similar to the current G5 line of towers with the entry level and middle of the road models sporting one Core Duo and the high end featuring dual dual cores.

Apple is also rumored to be making a major change to their tower enclosures for the first time since  2003. No details on the new case yet, but no doubt we will have fake pictures to show you soon.  One can hope that the new towers will have greater expansion capabilities, more hard drive cages, and dual optical bays but that seems as likely as the machine retailing for US$899.

One thing seems sure: with its current value-packed iMac line, Apple has to come out with something that has added appeal to separate their consumer and pro lines, otherwise consumers and pro-sumers alike might just hold off and buy some firewire accessories to even out the playing field.
