Former MICA Director Atul Tandan passes away

Former Director MICA Atul Tandan passed away at London Airport due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 67.

Former Director of Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) Atul Tandan passed away on Sunday morning (UK time) at London Airport due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 67. In his 44-year long career, Tandan, an IIT Mumbai and IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, also worked at Hindustan Lever Ltd., Cadbury (India) Ltd., Bajaj Electricals Ltd. and JL Morison (India) Ltd at various senior positions.

Tandan was associated with management education since 1984. He also taught at several institutes in India, UK, France and Sri Lanka. He was also a model for an all time famous Lipton tea advertisement.

“Having worked with him for three years, I recall him being a great example of a true leader. He helped transform the infrastructure, curriculum and employment conditions at MICA. He used to also teach strategic brand management, which was his forte,” said UT Rao, Faculty of entrepreneurship at MICA and Chairperson of MICA incubator.

He is survived by his wife Priya (67), daughter Karishma (38) and son Samvit (36). While the last rites took place in London on Monday as per a release from MICA, the student community and MICA employees gathered at the Mani Ayer Auditorium in the afternoon to pay their respects to the former director of the institute. A prayer meeting is being planned by the institute on Thursday, March 5 at 4pm at the Ganesh Temple located in MICA campus.
