Nigeria's governing party elects officers

The governing party of the Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, is meeting to elect its national officers.

Some four-thousand delegates of the People's Democratic Party are in the capital, Abuja, for the meeting, at which Mr Obasanjo and his vice-president Atiku Abubakar are expected to speak.

The party won a majority of seats in elections that returned the country to a civilian administration earlier this year.
