Inaccuracies in listing aside, this is a good collection of early Stones music. More of a cohesive listen than the US version because it doesn't contain the singles Satisfaction and The Last Time? Or a much weaker LP because of these omissions? I think somewhere between the two. Listening to this piece of vinyl today, it's refreshing not to have the experienced tainted by the appearance of aforementioned huge hits, or to be completely thrown off by the inclusion of a grating live track. On the other hand, Out of Our Heads UK is hardly a front-to-back masterpiece, rather a short, unassuming collection of solid Stones performances. In fact, the LP is more unassuming than most, containing just a couple of minor singles (Heart of Stone and I'm Free), both tucked away at the end of the record. I can't imagine this album topping any of the bestsellers' charts, either then or now, but I like it better than way, and maybe you will too.

It is a little different from the U.S. version notably the absence of "Satisfaction" I am trying to get both their UK editions (all albums prior to "Their Satanic Majesties Request" and the versions that I don't have from this side of the pond (Canada, and the States). I like the album however, ABKCO erred in remastering. They used a technique for cd's not LP's. The sound is not as good as it can be, My advice would be if one can get the original Decca get it, if you can't this edition will suffice. I am still looking for the edition that was released in Canada and the States on LP.

The Stones' covers were deeper and harder than any of their contemporaries, and this album highlights them in their best form as a mainly covers band. The sound is tough and raw, and provided a template for garage bands all over the world. There are no weak tracks here, something that cannot be always said for subsequent Stones' albums. Indeed, these tracks sound fresh and alive in their punch and directness. The Stones prove themselves master musicians as they match and rework the original versions of these songs in their own way. The originals are similarly strong - distinctively Stones and pointing the way to their magnificent mid-sixties music. Out of Our Heads stands comparison, on its own merits, with any subsequent Stones' album.

This was the Rolling Stones' third UK album. A different version of the album was released as the group's fourth US album . This UK version features eight covers of R&B and R&R songs, plus four Stones originals. This is really great stuff. It should be noted that while the CD is labeled "Stereo", it is actually in mono.
