Perennial candidate Joe Visconti of West Hartford is out of the governor’s race.
“The field has become more crowded every day,’’ Visconti told WJJF-FM radio host Lee Elci earlier this week. “There are so many candidates in the governor’s race.”
Instead Visconti is seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democrat Chris Murphy. Two other Republicans—Matt Corey of Manchester and Dominic Rapini of Branford—are also running.
Visconti, whose only elective position was a single term on the West Hartford town council, has sought numerous offices in the past, including Congress in 2008. In 2014, he ran unsuccessfully for governor as an independent and received 11,456 votes statewide out of about 1.1 million cast.
