Around 8.63 million viewers (38.5%) tuned in to watch Rebecca Adlington successfully complete her first Bushtucker Trial at 9pm, while a further 340k watched an hour later on +1.
Have I Got News for You, which featured guest host Robert Lindsay, was the highest-rated show outside of soaps for BBC One, attracting 3.73m (16.1%) at 9pm.
A repeat of last year's Miranda series 3 opener 'It Was Panning' drew 2.97m (13.4%) at 8.30pm, while an audience of 3.19m (22.6%) tuned in to watch guests including Sharon Osbourne and Colin Farrell appear on the Graham Norton Show at 10.45pm.
Over on BBC Two, 1.97m viewers (9.2%) watched Mastermind at 8pm, followed by 1.62m (7.4%) for Kangaroo Dundee and 1.91m (8.3%) for Wild Burma: Nature's Lost Kingdom. A further 280k (2.8%) watched a Lady Gaga Culture Show special at 11.05pm.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD was the highest rated show on Channel 4 with 1.11m viewers (5.1%). 8 out of 10 Cats picked up 820k viewers (3.6%) at 9pm, with a further 680k (3.8%) sticking around to watch Louis Walsh appear on Alan Carr: Chatty Man at 10pm.
Approximately 1.07m (4.9%) tuned in to watch Stobart: Trucks, Trains & Planes on Channel 5 at 8pm, while Friday night movie Troy secured 436k (2.6%) viewers at 9pm.
I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here Now! was a success for ITV2 at 10.30pm, drawing a total of 721k (5%) viewers.
Glee was seen by 112k (0.5%) viewers on Sky1 at 9pm, The Blacklist got 242k (1.1%) viewers on Sky Living at 9pm, while 199k (1.1%) tuned in to watch The Walking Dead on FOX at 10pm.
