Ἀρά personified as the goddess of destruction and revenge, “ὦ πότνι᾽ Ἀρ ὰ σεμναί τ ε θ ε ῶν π α ῖδες Ἐρινύες” S.El.III; “δεινόπους Ἀρά” Id.OT418; but in A.Eu.417 the Erinyes say that Ἀραί is their own name “γ ῆς ὑπαί; Ἀρά τ ᾽ Ἐρινὺς π α τ ρ ὸς ἡ μεγασθενής” Id.Th.70; “Ἀρ ᾶς ἱερόν” Ar.Fr.575.
