Delhi Police officers honoured

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police have bagged 11 President’s Police Medals for Gallantry, three President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 13 Police Medals for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Republic Day this year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Inspector Manoj Dixit, Sub-Inspectors Ranbir Singh and Ashok Tyagi and Head Constables Davender, Satish and Harish have been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry for having arrested gangster Ayub and his accomplices.

Inspector Vivekanand Jha, member of a Special Cell team that arrested gangster Naga Singh, his brother Brijesh and accomplices, has also been awarded the gallantry medal.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar has been conferred the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry for his contribution in eliminating two “dreaded” gangsters, Om Prakash alias Bunty and Rajesh Sharma, in an alleged encounter.

Head Constables Sunderlal Gautam and Devi Dayal have also been awarded the gallantry medal.

The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service has been conferred on S. Nithianandam, presently posted as Joint Commissioner of Police (Security), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar, and ACP Om Prakash.

The Police Medal for Meritorious Service has been conferred on Joint Commissioner of Police Ujjwal Mishra. In the Special Branch, Mr. Mishra supervised a team of 30 inspectors that nabbed a notorious spy, Coomer Narain, apart from a large number of government officials including some members of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. It led to a trial lasting 20 years, culminating in major convictions.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Neeraj Thakur has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service for his contributions at various levels. As DCP (West Delhi) he introduced “Alternate Complaint Resolution System” that resulted in amicable settlement of a large number of complaints.

Anand Mohan, presently posted as Deputy Inspector General (Puducherry), has also been conferred the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The other winners of the medal are Inspector Dharam Pal Singh, Sub-Inspector Rambir Singh, ASIs Raj Singh and Lal Chand, Head Constable Jagjeet Singh, and Constables Jitender Singh, Jai Singh, Mukesh, Jag Pal and Subhash.
