総合そうごう研究けんきゅう博物館はくぶつかん本館ほんかんは東京大学とうきょうだいがく本郷ほんごうキャンパス本館ほんかんにありますが、展示てんじ公開こうかい活動かつどうは理学りがく系けい研究けんきゅう科か附属ふぞく小石川こいしかわ植物しょくぶつ園えんにある小石川こいしかわ分館ぶんかん、丸まるの内うちKitte内ないのインターメディアテク（学術がくじゅつ文化ぶんか総合そうごうミュージアム）など、学内がくない外がいさまざまなスペースで展開てんかいしています。また、モバイル・ミュージアムという機動きどう的てきな展示てんじ公開こうかいは国外こくがいもふくめた複数ふくすう施設しせつで進行しんこう中ちゅうです。
　 そうした諸しょ施設しせつで展開てんかいする展示てんじ公開こうかいのコンテンツをうむのは学術がくじゅつ標本ひょうほんを基軸きじくとした最先端さいせんたんの研究けんきゅうです。本郷ほんごう本館ほんかんでは、東京とうきょう大学だいがくでおこなわれてきた標本ひょうほん研究けんきゅうの歴史れきしや成果せいか、あるいは最先端さいせんたんの研究けんきゅう現場げんばそのものを、常設じょうせつ展示てんじとして公開こうかいしています。このサイトは、それをウェブでご覧らんいただけるようにしたものです。

 The University Museum of the University of Tokyo (UMUT) is a multi-faceted research facility of the university. Located on the Hongo Campus, it directs major satellite organizations in the Koishikawa Annex (Koishikawa) and the Intermediatheque (Marunouchi), along with a large number of smaller temporary exhibition units called UMUT Mobile Museums that have been installed across the world.
 The exhibitions at these facilities primarily stem from original research conducted at the university. The permanent exhibition at the Hongo Main Building, the UMUT Hall of Inspiration, aims to show how research on natural and cultural history are conducted in the university, displaying scientific specimens related to the history, results, and actual laboratories of the research.
