Overview

An annual tradition for over 40 years, the Blue Cross Broad Street Run is a 10-mile, point-to-point course running from North Philadelphia to the Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia.

Participants pass many of the city’s most important landmarks along the way, including Temple University, City Hall, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Avenue of the Arts and the South Philadelphia Sports Complex.

Expect record-breaking times and more than 40,000 runners on this USA Track & Field-certified course, which rates as one of the country’s most iconic races by Runner’s World magazine.

Brand new for the 2023 run: prize money and awards for the top non-binary runners, as an addition to the traditional male and female open division prizes.

Spectators can find cheer zones up and down Broad Street. Family activities return this year as well, including the Children’s Fun Zone.

This year’s run is set to take place on Sunday, April 30, 2023, starting at 8 a.m.

Where to Cheer

With festivities spread out over 10 miles, it can be hard to know the best places to catch all the action. Read on for some of the top spots.

The Starting Line

The Broad Street Run kicks off in North Philly by the Central High School Athletic Field, located on Broad Street between Fisher and Somerville avenues. An electric atmosphere fills the field and racers toe the starting line by 7:55 a.m. sharp, with fresh waves of competitors gathering every five minutes.

The Finish Line

Where better to cheer on these athletes than at the official after-party? The race concludes at the K Lot in Lincoln Financial Field, right across the street from the Broad Street Run after-party at XFINITY Live! (More on that below.)

At Home

Perhaps you’re more of an “in spirit” kind of spectator. If so, you can watch a TV broadcast of the Broad Street Run on NBC10 and T62 (Telemundo) or catch the live stream online.

Don’t Miss

The race isn’t the only action happening during the Broad Street Run. Get the party started (or keep it going) at the following events:

  • Health & Wellness Expo: Runners, volunteers and all spectators of all ages are invited to the free Health & Wellness Expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (1101 Arch Street). Along with being the bib pick-up site for runners, attendees can gear up with fitness merch at the Expo’s marketplace and learn about health and wellness resources from a number of vendors (April 28-29, 2023).
  • Children’s Fun Zone and Children’s Run: Bring your littles to the Shriners Children’s Fun Zone or let them burn off energy at the Shriners Children’s Run. At the Broad Street Run finish line, children 12 and under can enjoy clowns, face-painting and kid-friendly activities, and Children’s Run participants get refreshments and commemorative t-shirts. Children’s activities begin at 7:30 a.m. and wrap up by 11 a.m. (Sunday, April 30, 2023).
  • Official Broad Street Run After-Party at XFINITY Live!: Open to all, the official 2023 after-party takes place across the street from the finish line at XFINITY Live! (1100 Pattison Avenue). Runners and spectators can enjoy live bands, DJs, activities, beer specials and tons of food options. All ages are welcome, but note that nearby roads are closed for the finish line and no parking is permitted (Sunday, April 30, 2023).
  • Flavors on the Avenue: This year the Broad Street Run overlaps with another Philly darling, Flavors on the Avenue. This pay-as-you-go street festival features restaurant specials, live music and more than 100 vendors all along trendy East Passyunk Avenue (Sunday, April 30, 2023).
