This is an unfortunate blunder in that, with already somewhat lackluster source material, the adaptation managed to make it a little bit worse.
The animation went an odd and possibly counterproductive route by being faithful to the source style which truly and profoundly doesn't make for the expression of motion, and as such there is very very little of it. In turn the activity and plot execution has little to no energy behind it.
If this was story or gag driven it could easily be let slide, but in both cases all it's got to work on in a stale bro-mance with a bit of the exotic. Whilst the manga gets away with it by working with the more absurd and the more exotic, the toned down approach of the animation really doesn't allow the good parts of the series to be expressed.
The sound at least isn't a problem functionally. They found pretty good voices for the two mains and various ancillary characters that nothing feels jarring or mistaken. The music is not to my taste, but it's certainly well composed and executed for the genre.
With the sole exception of the Yakuza Sauna scene which does get a laugh pretty much every time, there's not much to recommend this. If you *really* like the source book give it a go, but you might be disappointed in that case. If not, give it a miss.
