WarTech: Senko no Ronde. Crouching shooter, lack of promotion

WarTech: Senko no Ronde. No ads, bad cover art, $60 price tag. I'm not feeling …

It's rare that I don't get a good lock on whether or not to buy a game. It's either in a series I enjoy—I've seen enough of the previews to get excited—or I've played a demo. But purchasing choices are rarely hard. Sure, you get burned every now and again, but that comes with the territory. Then along comes a game like WarTech: Senko no Ronde. You can find a few videos here and there—it looks like a cross between a 2D shooter and Zone of the Enders—but there is precious little information. No reviews. Bad cover art.

"But it's a shooter," my brain screams. "You have to at least try it!"

Again, this rarely happens. I feel like I'm going into the game completely blind; after a few Google searches it turns out every shooter enthusiast is looking for a review, for some thoughts, or anything at all. With a game like this you almost expect budget-pricing, but it's $60. The problem is that the developer, G.rev, has quite the track record. They worked on Border Down on the Dreamcast, Ikaruga, and Gradius V

With a heavy heart, I bought it. I know I'm probably throwing myself in front of a bullet here, but if no one else is going to pick it up, I might as well. Someone has to do it. Ubisoft pushed this out with what feels like no promotion, but the videos and screens hint at what could be a good game.

I've been spoiled by Odin Sphere—is it possible that we have two sleeper hits to review this week? Find out soon.
