IONOS Cloud Server API and Metadata API documentation

With the Cloud Server, you can always adjust your IT resources to the needs of your IT projects, e.g. the number of CPUs or the storage capacity of the SSD. The selected configuration is charged by the minute. Using the extensive monitoring capabilities, you can monitor your servers and receive updates on individually specified events.

The IT resources are conveniently managed in the Cloud Panel. In addition, the Cloud Server offers an Application Programming Interface (API). This interface provides you with all features of the Cloud Panel.

What is the Cloud Server API?

The Cloud Server API is a programming interface that allows easy access to all functions of the Cloud Server. This programming interface follows the RESTful API design.

REST (Representational State Transfer) is an architectural style for the implementation of web services. This API uses standard HTTP methods to perform queries and operations and allows you to integrate the functions of the Cloud Server into any applications and services.

What is the Metadata API?

The Metadata API is a service allowing any Cloud Server to access data about itself. Information such as the server's public IP, datacenter location, DNS configuration and UserData are all accessible. UserData is data that can be provided during the server’s creation, and is based on Cloud Init. Usually the UserData data is a piece of code and it is automatically executed the first time the server boots. Therefore, taking advantage of the Metadata API and configuring UserData during the creation of servers can help automate the initial configuration of the server.
