The source says the photo was taken in the "second half of the 20th century", i.e. 1951-2000. Bearing in mind that Justinas Lebedžinskas was arrested in 1946 (cf. "Lietuvos Gyventoju Genocidas", band II, part 2, page 309), then served in the labour camp until 1956 (ibid.), and then lived in Dzhezkazgan until 1960 (cf. the source), it is possible to narrow the years to 1951–1960.

Also, we could narrow the dates even more, if we consider that photography was not allowed in labour camps (and especially in camps for political prisoners) until 1953. But that would be an "original research" which is not allowed on Wikipedia. – [[User:JohnnyWiki|JohnnyWiki]] ([[User talk:JohnnyWiki|{{int:Talkpagelinktext}}]]) 12:15, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

Source of the photo[edit]

The indicated source (Europeana) is a secondary location of the photo, the original location is https://www.limis.lt/greita-paieska/perziura/-/exhibit/preview/60000000577579. – JohnnyWiki (talk) 12:15, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Location of the photo[edit]

The photo description in the source (both Europeana and the original) clearly states that the location is Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. Therefore the description in Wikimedia Commons is incorrect, and should be put in line with the source.

According to the handbook "Lietuvos Gyventoju Genocidas", band II, part 2, page 309, Justinas Lebedžinskas only served in Kazakhstan, and this fact also confirms the location.

In the source, the name of the mine is indicated as "Džeskazgano-Rudnik". It should be translated into English as "Dzhezkazgan mine", because the word "rudnik" means "mine" in Russian. In the source, the word has not been translated to Lithuanian because prisoners colloquially were used to say that they "work in the rudnik" without specifying what rudnik, and they also used the same words when explaining the location to the interviewing museum employees.

This means that the image file may need renaming, but I don't know how to do that. – JohnnyWiki (talk) 12:36, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Timing of the photo[edit]

The source says the photo was taken in the "second half of the 20th century", i.e. 1951-2000. Bearing in mind that Justinas Lebedžinskas was arrested in 1946 (cf. "Lietuvos Gyventoju Genocidas", band II, part 2, page 309), then served in the labour camp until 1955 (ibid.), and then lived in Dzhezkazgan until 1960 (cf. the source), it is possible to narrow the years to 1951–1960.

Also, we could narrow the dates even more, if we consider that photography was not allowed in labour camps (and especially in camps for political prisoners) until 1953. But that would be an "original research" which is not allowed on Wikipedia. – JohnnyWiki (talk) 12:15, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
