- Info Plants draw up the water and minerals they need through their roots, where it must pass several layers of cells and points of filtration. In young roots, water can either flow in between cells though their cell walls, and be directed to screening at the endodermis, or it can be filtered initially as it passes into a root hair cell and flows through the continuum of protoplasts and plasmodesmata.
