A structured approach to understanding violence and the factors that determine its impact.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A General Theory of Violence was first proposed by Robin Coupland in relation to armed violence. This posited that: first, the impact of any act of violence in any context can be interpreted in terms of its impact on the health of the victim or victims; second, that the determinants of - or risk factors for - this impact are: the intent of the perpetrator or perpetrators, the physical means (the weapons) at their disposal and the vulnerability of the victim or victims to the impact in question.
