Yep, that's me!

This male Rodian is a major character in the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars, voiced by Tom Kenny. Get this—he was seen WALKING through the streets of Coruscant when Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker was also seen walking through them. He sported a jacket at that time.

Similar to Unidentified man in green firing turret, Unidentified Rodian with jacket was known for his massive impact on the Star Wars universe in which he resides. I mean, how many jacket-donning Rodians have you seen in Star Wars? Greedo doesn't count, because Han shot him first.

Biography[編集へんしゅう | ソースを編集へんしゅう]

During the final decades of the Galactic Republic, a male Rodian was born into the galaxy. Judging by the grizzled appearance of Unidentified Rodian with jacket in 20 BBY, it can be assumed he was middle-aged when he walked through the streets of Coruscant. Since Rodians reach old age at 60 standard years, making their lifespan slightly shorter than the average human, it can be assumed that middle-age would be reached at age 35, placing Unidentified Rodian with jacket's birth year c. 55 BBY.[1]

Anyway. In 20 BBY, during the dying days of the Clone Wars, Unidentified Rodian with jacket was seen strolling through the streets of Coruscant, in the same crowd as whiny Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker, who glared angrily at Unidentified Rodian with jacket and other scummy aliens whilst furrowing his brow.

It is unknown what happened to Unidentified Rodian with jacket following the formation of the Galactic Empire. However, it is assumed that since Emperor Palpatine discriminated against most non-human forms of life, he was prosecuted and sentenced to manual labor along with every other extraterrestrial on Couruscant.[2]

Personality and traits[編集へんしゅう | ソースを編集へんしゅう]

Unidentified Rodian with jacket was known for his sullen look and squinted eyes, which may've implied that his life was in dire straits, but could've also indicated that he was just having a bad day.

Unidentified Rodian with jacket was also known for his unique fashion sense. He wore a jacket, which was colored gray. Walking through the ghettos of Coruscant, his eyes were squinted and he had a sullen look on his face. He wore not only brown pants, but tan boots. The right sleeve of his legendary jacket had 13 visible stripes on it, whereas the left sleeve only had 3 visible stripes. The jacket had a tan border along the bottom. His jacket did not appear to be buttoned up all the way; a blue undershirt was visible. Six hairs were visible on his head; ten blemishes were visible on his face.

Behind the scenes[編集へんしゅう | ソースを編集へんしゅう]

Unidentified Rodian with jacket was created by Russian animator Genndy Tartakovksy. He first appeared in "Chapter 21" of the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars, originally aired on Cartoon Network's action block Toonami on March 21, 2005 at 8:00 P.M. EST, immediately prior to a pre-empting of Dragon Ball Z. A DVD entitled Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume II was released by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on December 6, 2005; it contained all chapter of the series' third season, including the chapter where Unidentified Rodian with jacket made his debut to the world.

According to the commentary to Clone Wars Volume II, the crew named named him "Louie" as an in-joke, and a possible reference to Louie Anderson. Since the name "Louie" has never appeared in any official Star Wars media, however, it should be assumed as non-canon.[3] Genndy also joked that he is "in fact an important character to the Star Wars canon," and "controlled all of the major events that happened throughout the movies," such as Anakin turning to the dark side or Luke destroying the Death Star. Certain fans, being the fools they are, have taken Genndy's comments seriously and integrated them into their meticulously-researched Wookieepedia articles on characters who appeared on-screen for three seconds.

On April 25, 2014, Lucasfilm Ltd., now under the ownership of Disney, declared all Star Wars Expanded Universe material non-canon.[4] This included the 2003 Clone Wars series, voiding the existence of Unidentified Rodian with jacket. Though this was a tragic loss, fans hold out hope that since the EU remains a "well of ideas" for future Star Wars material to reference, Unidentified Rodian with jacket might be brought back into the new continuity.

Notes and references[編集へんしゅう | ソースを編集へんしゅう]

  1. Time in the Star Wars universe is reckoned using as a basis the exact moment in A New Hope when the Stormtrooper entering the control room on the Death Star bangs his head on the door and yells. Using this system, events occurring before this moment are designated BBY (before bang/yell), and events after ABY.
