Janče is a dispersed settlement in the hills to the south of the river Sava to the east of the capital Ljubljana in central Slovenia. It belongs to the Ljubljana Urban Municipality. It was part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included with the rest of the municipality into the Central Slovenia statistical region.[2]

The local parish church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ljubljana. It was a 17th century chapel to which a nave was added in the early 18th century and a belfry in 1830.[3] A chapel, dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, was erected next to the church in 1897,[4] after the 1895 Ljubljana earthquake, which had its epicenter in the village.[5] There is also a mountain hut, built in 1959 in the centre of the village, with a memorial plaque dedicated to Slovene Partisans that had fallen in a [[Battle of Janče|battle with German occupying forces at Janče in May 1942.[5]
