Welcome to Wikipedia! Dunderave Castle seems like a fine place to start. That article could do with a photo. You have any photos taken yourself? I'm sure User:Witty lama will show you how to add one, but otherwise drop me a line if you like. Happy to help. -- Harry Wood (talk) 22:31, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nice to see you on Wikipedia! Apparently I started reading up on the British Museum a little too late, so I probably won't make it to London this time around; still, one more wikipedian happy to help here. Drop me a line on my talk page! :-) --Kim Bruning (talk) 21:14, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've also left a little message on your main userpage. WittyLama 00:18, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Rosetta stone on the main page too! You/The BM, are doing well. I hope you have suggested to the Friends of the Museum that they invite Liam to their annual binge amd thank you night. (with air fare!) Victuallers (talk) 07:43, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
I know, great isn't it! shows that the collaboration carries on bearing fruit even after the activity in June. Will you be coming to GLAM:WIKI at the BM in November? Hope to see you there. Matthewcock (talk) 09:11, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I will be there. Thanks also for forwarding my feathered helmet note. I also wrote to Information@Brit.. so they may get the same question twice. I think the BM collaboration is working the best of all the wiki collaborations. I'm guessing its that the "free" word is also important to the BM. Cheers Roger Victuallers (talk) 14:22, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Fae, just seen this - great! Matthewcock (talk) 09:14, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am preparing a series of Wikipedia articles on Kings of the Kassite dynasty. I don’t know how to put it diplomatically, but the Kassites trod rather lightly on the pages of history so there is actually very little material to work with. To provide colour I could rather do with some visual material and I find that the British Museum has key artifacts in their collection.
Specifically, Burna Buriash’s tablet to Tutankhamen known as “El Amarna 9” (BM 29785) would be ideal. I emailed an order (FI-000356293) to the British Museum, describing my use and they emailed me back an image (AN36509001), but I find the terms and conditions clash with Wikipedia’s policy of “we only accept images when they are released under a "free" license”. Would a version be available that is “free”, perhaps lower resolution? I note that the British Museum also has another of his letters, this time to Akhenaten, EA 10 (BM 29786), which would probably work as well, and EA 5 (BM 29787) probably from Kadashman-Enlil I to Amenhotep III would be great for his article. Not to mention the prism, BM 108982, of Kurigalzu I or the Agum-Kakrime inscription, which I understand is in the Kouyunjik collection of the British Museum, references 4149, 4203, 4348 and Sm. 27 – I think it’s in pieces.
Can you point me to the appropriate BM contact or suggest a feasible approach? BigEars42 (talk) 00:53, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, thanks for contacting me about this. I'll try and help as far as I am able. From what I can guess you used the image service, and rightly guessed that the images that we licence through that service can't be used on Wikipedia. In fact, the service is intended for personal research. use in lectures, classrooms, or low-print run books or academic articles. We dont permit their use online at all. The smaller images that you can see on the BM website can be used online, but as you are aware, they are only permitted for non-commercial use, which doesn't work for Wikipedia. As I am sure you can appreciate, I can't sanction any other use of our images than what is permitted by the Museum's licence, so I can't suggest any way around this. I can put you in contact with the curator, to see if they could help in any way with any of the articles that you are working on, but their position regarding use of Museum images will be the same. I am sorry I cant be more helpful than this. It's not ideal, given that we want to collaborate as much as possible with people like yourself working on areas of shared interest, but at the moment, this is the Museum's position. Would you like me to get hold of the appropriate curator anyway? Matthewcock (talk) 09:44, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes please. Another commentator suggested that "if someone were to go the museum and take a photograph themselves, that photo could be used", which I am unsure is proper. Would the curator or other Museum employee have private photographs of the objects subject to use? BigEars42 (talk) 14:52, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Strictly speaking you are permitted to take photographs in the Museum galleries for personal use. Adding that image to Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons would be allowing others to use it for a range of reasons, which would be beyond your personal use. However, in reality, this is likely where the majority of the images that are on Wikipedia come from. I'm not sure that the curator would have, or should have any images that are subject to any different rules, I'm afraid. But, I'll put you in touch. Hopefully he or she can help - even if it is in other ways, to do with the article text content. You don't have a user page as far as I can see, so I'll post the contact detail here. Matthewcock (talk) 16:25, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You can also post to my talk page. I didn't set up a user page yet as I'm new and only have a small body of work. BigEars42 (talk) 23:01, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
