On your erasing of Pastebin.com censorship section

[edit]

Hello, QuietCicada!

I have noticed this your edit where you had removed the information regarding the censorship onPastebin.com service. You've justified the edit by implying that the posts in social media are not sufficient sources.

I disagree with your edit. Unfortunately, when a company does something nasty (e.g. censorship) they don't usually do a press release about is saying "we are baddies now". The big IT-related news media don't always investigate such things. Therefore, I had to resort to use private persons as the sources. There are plentiful independent sources with zero contradiction, the fact itself is not disputed by any source reliable or minor (except for the Pastebin ToS).

Due to current state of the internet-themed media it is quite unlikely that this and other cases of censorship will ever get any coverage, and therefore, if we, the wiki editors, mechanically rule out minor sources, we might end up with quite incomplete and inaccurate Wikipedia, which we do not want.

I believe that the having or not having censorship is a key property of a website on which users should be aware of, the founders of Wikipedia had thought the same when explicitly wrote that "Wikipedia is not censored". Therefore, I'll shortly reinstate the censorship section you erased. Thank you for your attention. Леголегс (talk) 11:26, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for reaching out!
WP:NOTCENSORED is primarily about offensive content, and states that "Content will be removed if it is judged to violate Wikipedia's policies". One such policy (technically a guideline) is WP:USERGENERATED, which states that social media is "generally unacceptable" as a source.
I recommend that you ask the Wikipedia:Teahouse for more information about policies before you reinstate your edit. QuietCicada chirp 13:02, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
