  1. Abbreviation of phonetic. Used in parentheses after an utterance in transcripts to indicate that the transcriber has, to ensure accuracy, represented the sounds heard and that the actual referent may be spelled differently.
    • 2024 April 11, Case 9:23-cr-80101-AMC Document 448-1 Exhibit A[1], page 60:
      Mr. Nauta: They're -- I think it's U-Storage (ph.). Not -- don't quote me on that U-Storage. I don't know. Life Storage (ph.), I believe. U-Storage, Life-Storage.
