The official handle of Railway Seva has responded to the post. “We’re concerned to hear this & would like to help ASAP. We will require your mobile no. preferably via DM. You may also raise your concern directly on railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in or dial 139 for speedy redressal,” it wrote.

The post came to light after an X handle, @mumbaimatterz, reshared it triggering a sea of reactions criticising the Railways. A netizen wrote, “Railway should compensate to the passengers for such damage. When they are charging in the name of best services in the world.” Another user commented, “Deficiency of services under the Consumer Protection Act. The @RailMinIndia must compensate all the victims for the agony, trauma & inconvenience put through due to the lack of hygiene and cleanliness standards in Indian railways.”

In March, a woman travelling on the Bhubaneswar-Junagarh Express spotted a rat inside an AC compartment. In October last year, rats were seen running freely over food items inside the pantry car of the Madgaon Express.
