Special Collections & Archives

The Special Collections & Archives Department of the Auburn University Libraries is located on the Ground Floor of Ralph Brown Draughon Library and houses published and unpublished materials which, because of their uniqueness or condition, require special care and handling. Special Collections & Archives collects, preserves, makes available, and publicizes institutional records, personal manuscripts, photographs, rare books, and selected artifacts in support of the research, teaching, and outreach missions of Auburn University. Technical Services

The Auburn University Libraries Technical Services Department is responsible for strategically acquiring, cataloging, and managing information resources, in multiple formats, that support and enhance the learning, teaching and research needs of Auburn University students, faculty, and staff. We maintain and actively pursue optimal discovery of these resources across several platforms.

Innovation & Research Commons

The Innovation & Research Commons (I&RC) includes research, multimedia, and design components and additional innovative learning spaces to support AUえーゆー’s teaching and research endeavors. Visit the I&RC on the 1st floor of the RBD Library.

Digital Wall

The Digital Wall is a large, interactive digital display located on the first floor of the RBD Library. It provides a one-of-a-kind platform for 3D geospatial visualization, panoramic images, video, tours, and more in a shared immersive environment. Auburn holds the distinction of being one of the few institutions in the Southeast to make this unique and innovative resource available to its patrons.

Circulation & Reserve Offices

The Circulation Department staff help you get the most out of the AUえーゆー Libraries. The Circulation Department exists to promptly and accurately issue and receive circulating materials, maintain accurate records of patrons, create and maintain reserve collection records, and more.

Newspaper Reading Room

Large windows and comfortable seating provide an ideal environment for browsing our expansive collection of newspapers from across the globe. Spacious desks are also available and two large televisions display news networks to keep students updated on breaking stories. The Alabama Newspaper Hall of Honor inductees are displayed in this room as well as an exhibition of historical newsprint items from our Special Collections and Archives department. The Newspaper Reading room is also used for special guest speakers and presentations.

Systems Department

The Auburn University Library Systems Department supports the technical requirements of the Libraries. The department provides systems and services that advance the mission of the Libraries. Among these are desktop support, technical functionalities, and enhancements to the library system. The purpose of the Systems Department is to implement and support technologies that will simplify processes for the Libraries staff, enhance the user experience, and spur on academic and educational success.

MakerSpace

The MakerSpace of the Innovation & Research Commons (I&RC) is an interdisciplinary space that fosters a spirit of exploration and play while providing technologies for research and innovation for all users.

Library Conference Room

Maps, Aerial Photography & Microformats Collections

The map collection houses more than 185,000 maps covering all areas of the world. It is divided into the Government Documents map collection and the Library of Congress map collection. Many of the maps are included in our library catalog.

Audio Studio

An audio recording and editing studio available to students, faculty and staff for class work, podcasts, music, and more.

Adobe Creative Space

The Adobe Creative Space of the Innovation & Research Commons is an open-access learning space for Auburn students, faculty, and staff dedicated to providing Auburn students with digital creation skills and technology. This area, as well as online resources here, promote the digital literacy of our students to encourage their success both in their coursework and in their careers. Creative co-working space is available in the Adobe Creative Space on a first-come first-serve basis with priority given to users actively working in Adobe Creative Cloud; instructional sessions by I&RC staff have first priority. University COVID guidelines must be followed when using the Adobe Creative Space.

Technology Lending Space

Available now at The Technology Lending Space of the I&RC has all the equipment you need to complete your next project.

Extended Reality Space

Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), & Mixed Reality (MR), when taken beyond the bounds is referred to as Extended Reality (XR). This Space is for Research, Development, and Experimentation.
