Synopsis
Nifty ended Wednesday's session near the flatline to form a small red candle on the daily chart and indicate a probable halt in downside momentum.
The immediate support of the ascending trend line has been broken on the downside recently and the significant opening downside gap of 5th August remains unfilled. This is a negative indication. A decisive move below 23,900 could trigger near term downward correction in the market. Immediate resistance is placed at 24,250-24,300 levels, said Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities.

Gold prices declined in volatile trading on Wednesday after U.S. consumer price data for July met expectations, dampening hopes for a significant rate cut from the Federal Reserve next month. U.S. Treasury yields jumped after the July consumer inflation report matched expectations, making a 25 basis point interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve next month more likely, though a more aggressive 50 bps cut seems less probable. Prior to the Labor Department's report, which showed the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.2% in July following a 0.1% decline in June, the odds of a rate cut at the Fed's September 17-18 meeting were nearly evenly split between a 50 bps and a 25 bps cut.

Reliance Power Q1 Results: Net loss narrows to Rs 98 crore
Reliance Power on Wednesday said its consolidate loss narrowed to Rs 97.85 crore during the June 2024 quarter, on account of improved income. It had reported a loss of Rs 296.31 crore in the April-June period of the preceding 2023-24 financial year, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Rupee gives up nearly all gains, importers' dollar demand weighs
The Indian rupee ended nearly flat on Wednesday as U.S. dollar demand from importers and foreign banks eroded the currency's early gains that came due to growing expectations of rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.
The rupee closed at 83.9475 against the dollar, little changed from its close at 83.97 in the previous session.
While the currency rose to a high of 83.9025 early in the session, traders said it succumbed to pressure from dollar bids by foreign banks and importers.

PSU defence company Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders on Wednesday reported a 121% YoY jump in its profit after tax (PAT) to Rs 696 crore for the quarter ended June 2024. The same stood at Rs 314.30 crore in the year-ago period.
The revenue from operations for the period was reported at Rs 2,357 crore against Rs 2,172.76 crore in the first quarter of the previous financial year. This is an increase of 8.5% on a year-on-year basis.
