Frasier
(2023)

90's Nostalgia is back with a modern and hilarious twist.
Frasier is back! He's still the same lovable, overthinking, over-analyzing snob that everyone remembers :) With that being said, Frasier is still as endearing as ever. We find him back in Boston after many years starting over with a new career, a new home and trying to repair his relationship with his son, Freddy. The tribute to Martin (John Mahoney) was terrible and wonderful and left me in floods of tears! Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy plays perfectly to Kelsey Grammer's Frasier. In the reboot, it's a total twist. Father and son living together, but this time it's the father who is loving the finer things in life and the son who is more of the 'every day' man that Martin was in the original and it's great! My only suggestion would be to make the David character a little less cartoonish and clownish. He comes across as more of a caricature than a character and needs some depth. I LOVED the first two episodes and can't wait for more! I'm hoping this show will go for a long, long time! The additional cast is great as well; the character of Olivia is hilarious Lol...very well-casted show. Thank you for bring Frasier back!!!

Bupkis
(2023)

Low-rent excuse for 'humor'
This show was so bad that I couldn't even get through the first episode. It is filthy, gross and disgusting. Even the legendary Joe Pesci can't save it. If Pete Davidson is trying to tank his post-SNL career, this is a good way to go about it. The mom's shirt, the porn, the prostitute, hotel suite, every other word is the 'F' word, Brad Garret and his hip in a cringeworthy bedroom scene etc...it's like the senior citizen version of porn with a dash of low-brow comedy. Pete Davidson needs to step away from this kind of garbage..playing different, exaggerated versions of himself..and try his acting chops in a serious role. He was funny on SNL, but this is the bottom of the barrel. Nothing funny about it. If you're expecting to see the Brad Garret from Everybody Loves Raymond, you will be WAY disappointed. Something about old men using foul language and in sexual positions adds a real 'ick' factor to this show. Would not recommend.

The Whale
(2022)

Brendan Fraser as you've never seen him before
First of all, I've been a fan of Brendan Frasier since the 90's. I always felt his acting chops were underutilized in some of the movies he did, but this was just...it's hard to come up with the words. This was the most emotionally dedicated performance I've seen from an actor in many, many years and showcases Fraser's immense and expansive acting abilities.

I know he was rejected from Hollywood because of accusations he made against someone, and I find that shameful. To see him come back like this...in this role...the way he did makes my heart incredibly happy! Not many actors could pull of a roll like this, but Brendan Fraser managed it...and managed it beautifully!

I am very in touch with people who are bullied and people who feel hopeless/helpless, so needless to say, this movie tore my heart and I left the theater in tears.

Fraser's emotionally charged scenes with the actress who played his daughter...his vulnerability and willingness to go so far as to pay her to spend time with him was incredible. It was raw, open, and painful. Charlie possess something few people have these days...humanity. He made mistakes in his relationship with his daughter and was completely forgiving of her terrible behavior...even when she drugged him. The scenes with his helper and his ex-wife were explicitly and painfully executed. The pain that this family felt at the disintegration of their relationships was raw and it was real. Fraser's facial expressions and delivery of his lines only heightened the emotional pull.

Over all, it was absolutely fantastic. Welcome back, Brendan Fraser!!

Halloween Ends
(2022)

Poorly Executed Nonsense
I mean, I'll just say it. The movie is terrible. Poorly executed, it felt rushed and the acting...well, the less said about that, the better. Both Jamie Lee Curtis and the guy who played Michael Myers are in their mid-60's and that was apparent. I felt like I was watching a senior citizen version of Halloween.

The writing is terrible. The storyline makes no sense. The beginning of the movie opens up with this teenager who accidentally kills the kid he's babysitting for. He ends up really screwed up in the head and all of a sudden, thinks he's Michael Myers with no transition/explanation, whatsoever. Then we see Laurie Strode, who is now the 'recovered victim' living a ridiculously positive life without a care in the world. She's evidently a recovering alcoholic in this movie. She's living with her granddaughter who, for some reason, becomes obsessed with and decides to become a psychopath with aforementioned former babysitter turned evil killer. The guy who plays Michael Myers only has one major fight scene and that scene is weak as can be...probably because the guy playing him is 65 years old and has arthritis so he can't move as well? Who knows? I'll just leave this here. It's a hot mess and a disappointment. I'm hearing the Akaad family who produced the originals are making more and I look forward to that, but I am happy the Blumhouse people are done. These three Halloweens were terrible.

Samaritan
(2022)

Sylvester Stallone is still punching.
So, the general story is good. Former bad guy tries to make good and turn his life around. Stallone is a bad-ass, as always. The bond between Samaritan/Nemesis and Sam is nice...there is one scene where they are on the roof while Sam is having Samaritan show him how to fight. It's kind of a cool throwback to 'Rocky' and as Stallone walks away and talks about how aging makes you weak, just before he moves out of camera view, he smirks and honestly, it just made the whole movie for me :) In this movie, as in many of his others, Sly offers wisdom in his street-savvy way and has a heart of gold for those in need.

Supporting cast is good, but none of them are well-known enough or good enough to hold their own in a scene with an actor as seasoned as Sylvester Stallone is. He's a commanding on-screen presence and it takes an equally commanding actor/actress to be able to hold ground with him in the same scene.

What is so cool about this movie is how it's a combined action/adventure/SciFi flick. It manages to balance out both and even adds a bit of humor into it.

Definitely a must-watch if you are a Stallone fan :)

Flowers in the Attic: The Origin
(2022)

I'm skeptical, but willing to give it a chance.
As an avid reader of V. C Andrews books, I was super excited about this limited series! I just finished watching it and am so so on it so far, even though I'll continue watching.

First of all, the casting is TERRIBLE for most of the characters, although I enjoyed Kelsey Grammer as Garland Foxworth. Olivia Winfield is supposed to be more of a serious, plain-Jane type, so the actress that plays her is a good fit. However, Malcolm and Alicia are a different story. In the book, Malcolm is described as being so handsome, he's almost angelic. Definitely not the case with the actor; he's very average in looks and doesn't fill Malcolm's powerful persona at all; in fact, he comes across as a whining, petulant, abusive child, not a seasoned, cultured, well-traveled millionaire. The character of Alicia is described in the book as having 'cerulean' blue eyes and beautiful, long blonde hair. The actress has curly brown hair and is, frankly, nothing special to look at. She's certainly not someone who would or could make Malcolm's head turn.

Also, in the book, Alicia and Olivia are enemies, not friends, but the series turns them into friends and it doesn't fit the storyline. Also, in the book, Olivia's father dies, but does not lose his home and business. John Amos is supposed to be very menacing, not a nice, lovely guy as he is shown in the series. In terms of the storyline, the series left so much out of the book, but there's still enough there to make it recognizable.

I'm skeptical, but I'll keep watching because of my love for this story.

The Pentaverate
(2022)

A head-shaking, eye-rolling waste of time
So, when you see the name Mike Myers attached to something, I think we expect to see a higher, more polished level of quirky comedy. Pentaverate is NOT it. This show is a hot mess full of nonsensical characters (all of whom are played almost exclusively by Mike Myers) who are dull as dishwater. There are clumsy, feeble attempts at political satire/humor which fail epically, along with Canadian accents that would make anyone who is from Canada (or Northern Minnesota/Canadian border) cringe, and filthy, disgusting jokes/dumb-teenage level sexual innuendos. Despite having the same creator, this silly mess is nowhere near the comedic level of the Austin Power movies (although the theme stays in the same general orbit) and is just not funny. At all. In any way. We watched two episodes and were over it. Won't be watching anymore. If you need a Mike Myers fix, watch the Austin Power movies because you aren't going to be entertained with Pentaverate. If you enjoy this show, I'm guessing you'd also enjoy staring directly into the behind of a dog who isn't moving.

Who Do You Believe?
(2022)

What a letdown!
I watched the entire episode, became emotionally invested in it and then....nothing! They don't offer a verdict or explanation or anything. Absolute waste of time. Don't bother with this unless they change the format.

Cobra Kai
(2018)

I mean....it's Cobra Kai.
As someone who was a teenager in the mid-eighties and saw these movies when they first came out, it's safe to say I've been a lifelong fan! When I watched Cobra Kai religiously and just finished the 4th season. This series is amazing! The characters (particularly Kreese, Tori, Terry Silver, Johnny and Miguel) are really fleshed out this season as we find more out about their pasts. Spoiler; I think it's pretty apparent to anyone watching by now that we're going to find out that Johnny is Kreese's son. I mean, it's obvious if you've been following the series.

I like that we're seeing Samantha come into her own and learn to think for herself, rather than just doing everything her father wants her to do. She chooses to fight with Johnny's style of karate rather than her dad's, which is pretty cool.

Also, can I just say how I love how Amanda is stepping up and being a badass mom? She's confronting Tori, confronting Kreese etc.... I mean, the woman is strong and brave and not afraid of anything, nor does she take crap off of anyone. I mean, Amanda is a bit of a Karen...assuming that her children are perfect and can do no wrong, and reacting like a child when the truth is in her face (throwing a book around? Come on. Be an adult.)

I LOVE this series...absolutely love it. The 10th and final episode of this season has a spin that I never saw coming though. You'll love it!!

And Just Like That...
(2021)

Woke Garbage
For the love of God, take this over the top, Hollywood liberal woke-fest and put it out of its misery. This is AWFUL and can I just ask what in the world did Kristin Davis do to her face?? She can barely talk or form a facial expression! Kim Cattrall was a genius to steer clear of this hot mess. Btw, Che is a ridiculous character; she's gross, foul, super aggressive and has no class. Miranda is just a neurotic, alcoholic pinhead who can't seem to figure out how to talk to Black people (really? In a progressive, culturally diverse place like NYC?) and Carrie is the same old childish narcissist she always was. This Golden Girls version of SATC needs to go, stat. These girls should have been left in the 90's where they belong.

Clifford the Big Red Dog
(2021)

You'll cry tears of old school nostalgia
I grew up reading these books and loved them! Seeing this movie brought me right back to my happy childhood days. This movie reminds you that life isn't all dark and dreary; kindness , innocence and love are still major forces in our world. Cutest movie ever!! Thank you :)

Halloween Kills
(2021)

Worse than you'd expect
While I've always been a huge fan of the Halloween franchise, this one was really disappointing. Way too much gore for this franchise, and dumb storylines that don't make any sense (and the inclusion of a mental patient for no real reason/purpose...just some dumb side plot). Michael's kills were always simple, straightforward. His kills in this movie are just overkill and too much. The only role Jamie Lee Curtis has is laying in a bed and being a pain in the ass to everyone, including her daughter. The writing is mediocre, as is the storyline..particularly the end scene. During the movie, you felt like a backstory of some sort was going to be told, but it never is. Tommy, Lindsey and Dr. Loomis's nurse make short appearances, although they are non-sensical. The whole storyline makes no sense; it starts out at different times and flashes to other times. It's hard to follow. It was pretty much a mess.
