The Temptation
I just watched this movie today and even if I have a lot of more important things to do, I cannot resist the temptation of writing the review just now. Because it is a masterpiece.

First and foremost important point about this movie is the director's history. He already owns two ground-breaking creations "The Bull" and "The Well" and this one is no exception.

Although the storyline, as usual, focuses on rustic scenario and the usual rural politics but the story goes beyond that. The story addresses a lot of uncommon issues (uncommon to Marathi films) like "theism versus atheism", "reverence", "commercialization of Holy Places" and most importantly "Revelation of God" in such an elegant way that no one (from Marathi film industry) probably ever tried. The plot, the twists and the gradual evolution of the story is really exquisite. May god bless the writer.

The direction was too good. The way in which both positive and negative effects of the temple are depicted is awesome (and not just simply awesome, but out of the world awesome). In first few scenes, every scene appears to be well crafted. The characters and the plot are presented and evolved at the right pace.

As there were huge number of good actors with not-so-long (long in time) roles, everyone had a limited scope for acting. But I must say that almost everyone lived up to their potential. (I am saying almost because I don't know if the excessive display of expressions in some scenes by Jyoti Subhash was intentional/farcical). Otherwise good acting by everyone and especially good acting by the writer. Again god bless the actor(writer).

There are a few downsides to this movie. The first: the movie has more than required number of humorous punch lines. The second: the background songs. And the third: item number. To someone, it might look like a commercialization of a good movie but I, personally like commercial movies so, it wasn't an issue for me.

In conclusion, I like the movies which address such interesting topics with such an elegant manner.

Oh My God. How can I forget awesome lyrics! That's bad. Yes. The lyrics of all three songs are extraordinarily great. Don't miss (Although the lyrics contain some colloquial phrases and words and folk literature).

So again, it is a great movie to watch. A must watch (at least for Marathi people).

"AJ-E Viewer (read it "As A Viewer")", my rating: 10 (for all good stuff) - 0 (for commercialization of the movie) equals

A complete 10.

As a challenge ...
Well, I was challenged to write a good-only review about this movie, so here I am.

Lets start a counter from zero. Each time I find a good thing about this movie, I will increment that counter by one.

The first and the foremost important thing to mention here is PHOTOGRAPHY. It is outstanding. Hats off to the photographer. Starting from the village scenes in Punjab, the camera seemed to be focused at just right scenes in the entire film. The artistic use of the camera, the colors that appear in the scene, the explicit use of frames is exquisite. This is the most likable thing in the movie and hence counter becomes ONE.

Along with some awesome photography, there are a few more positives about the movie. One of them is explicit attack on Sardars. I hardly ever seen such an explicit attack. Some other movies use a comic character of a Sardar to show the same thing, but this movie, unlike other movies doesn't focus on a particular Sardar character to be dumb. Now counter becomes TWO.

Also, acting (or dialog delivery to be specific) by Manoj Pahwa is the best among all. So, lets increment counter by one and make it THREE.

Now, (probably) last but not least good thing in the movie, which is screenplay at the time of weddings in the movie. They are good. The combination of happiness experienced by a particular family due to the marriage while others are facing active terrorism is mind blowing. So, one more for the screenplay to make it FOUR.

Yes, FOUR is good enough.

So, my rating 4/10.

Pak Pak Pakaak
(2005)

Story plus direction plus acting plus humor equals eight.
The movie is mainly about the story and the elegance in the story makes the movie real enjoyable. The foremost important point is the story handles a typical rustic issue usually found in most of the Indian villages today. The story also portrays effects of the tyranny by the authoritative leaders in the village on a person's life. As the overall genre of the movie is humorous, the movie has a lot of funny scenes and light-weight stuff to take viewer's mind off the cruelty in the story. The anticlimax of the movie is the beauty and the beatitude ending makes the movie more typical.

The main story of the movie spans across one third off the movie and the remaining movie is complemented by the role of Chikhloo. This role of Chikhaloo played by Saksham Kulkarni is really nice for a supporting role. His humorous role keeps the life in the movie or otherwise the movie might seem ephemeral.

The main role of Bhutya played by Nana Patekar is one of the most descried parts of the movie. His character makes the story of the movie to proceed even when he is not on the screen. Director has successfully made efforts in creating a perfect image of Bhutya before introducing him to the viewers on screen.

Another good point in the movie is the way in which some problems of the society are addressed. The problem with traditional Indian educational system, the problem with traditional Indian custom of arranged marriage etc. are nicely summoned in the remaining two third part of the movie.

The songs in the movie are nice and some of the lyrics are also good.

Overall the movie is more of an entertainment than art but one can find some good artistic work in the movie along with sheer entertainment.

The director made it
The movie borrows main idea from movie, "What women want". The lead character in the movie, Shrirang Deshmukh, can listen what women think. But the tone in which the idea is conveyed and the separate scenes are rendered is far better than it was done in what women want.

The flow of the movie can be told as follows: Shrirang (the lead character) has a lot of problem with thinking what women want and his life is messed up by all the women around him including his boss and his wife. Then he gets divine power of being able to listen to what women think. Even if having this power, he faces a lot of problems to deal with this as he gets fed up of listening to women. He listens all kinds of crap by women including jealousy towards other women, their lachrymose at any unimportant thing, their regrets in their lives and what not. The good thing is all the crap he listens to is the story of every other middle class women in Mumbai. But listening to women's thoughts even exacerbates Shrirang's problem and thus he decides to go to a psychiatrist.

The psychiatrist guides him to the right path and the second part of movie is as easily guessed as anything but again, the director puts a lot of effort in making each and every scene to be best of its kind.

The lyrics of "Man udhan varyache" and "malhar vari" is really classic and also the screenplay in the song "Durge durghat bhari" is too good. Director has handled the niceties in the movie with a great effort towards making the scenes perfect.

Last but second most important thing in this movie is acting by Sanjay Narvekar (who played Shrirang). He has perfectly performed all sorts of emotions like happiness, confidence, agitation, anger and mainly frustration before he goes to the psychiatrist.

In short, the movie is a good conglomeration of simplistic, and yet so amazing, direction by Kedar Shinde with awesome acting by Sanjay Narvekar.

Aayatya Gharat Gharoba
(1991)

The richest man in the world.
As many of Sachin's Marathi movies are, this movie too is a classic combination of humorous screenplay and dialogs, nice storyline and good quality direction. Ashok Saraf plays the lead character in the movie and to the every extent of his abilities, he successfully played the role. Other actors like Supriya, Laxmikant Berde, etc. and Sachin himself supported through their great acting.

A couple of songs in this movie are really good including the title song but in general the songs are average. Many of the scenes from this movie are targeted to the larger audience but a few really nice scenes make the movie far better than other contemporary Marathi movies of that time.

This is a story of a philanthropist(Gonipath) who always puts other's interest ahead of his own. The story starts at a summer vacation when both Gopinath and Kedar Kirtikar (played by Sachin himself) start their vacation of 3 months. Every year in these 3 months both of them chose to be away from other people and live their time of life of themselves. But this year due to some unforeseen events their vacation plans get ruined and hence the story.

From the start to the end of the movie, Gopinath always gives and never asks anything back. The happiness he gets from this is uncountable and hence this is a story of richest man in the world.

Valu
(2008)

The storyline of this movie is inexplicable.
The movie mainly focuses on the life of the people in a small village in Maharashtra. Every aspect of the movie apparently concerns the fact that there is a wild bull roaming around in the village and everyone feels that the wild bull has messed up their lives.

Actually, its just a coincidence that in some cases the bull is present at the place where something bad has happened. Although this point is not made clear in the movie, the director is successful in hiding this fact in one of the scenes.

Some parallel stories keep proceeding along with the main story. Every story has its own meaning and has some (direct or indirect) connection with other stories and the main story.

Towards the end, three of the stories take part in the climax. At first, these three stories seem to be independent but the director successfully shows the connection between these stories without explicitly telling anything.

The interpretation of the movie can be stated in only one phrase : The problem with the bull is metaphor for issues in the lives of villagers.

The way of conveying the story is awesome. This is the first Marathi movie in which I have seen such elegant and 'full of art' direction.

Screenplay, locations, background score and acting by Atul Kulkarni is also good.

In all its one of the nicest piece of art in Marathi film industry.

Dev.D
(2009)

Its explicit ...
This movie follows story line of the famous novel Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Although many movies were made earlier on this story, this one is specially different. This movie looks totally different as opposed to the other movies. A special type of, what people would say, "Modern look" makes this movie different.

The main attraction of the movie is its screenplay. The sets (and the locations) help to make screenplay look better.

Abhay Deol's acting was awesome and as was the role representation of 'Chanda'. Every aspect of her character is highlighted in such a good manner that in some parts of the movie it looks like she is the lead character in the movie.

A bunch of songs in the movie eliminate the necessity of creating background scores separately.

On the top of everything, the direction of the movie is so good that predictability tends to zero, realism is maintained, suspense is maintained and all actors made to act to their best.

The main thing is EVERYTHING IN THIS MOVIE IS EXPLICIT.

Jannat: In Search of Heaven...
(2008)

Yet Another Emraan Hashmi Movie
An incredibly nice song sung by KK, jara si dil mein de jagah tu..., is the biggest attraction of the movie. The movie, in general, is 'yet another Emraan Hashmi movie'. The theme can be stated as : "A guy who is good at guessing what will happen next in a cricket match starts 'Do number dhanda' of betting and match fixing."

The story writer failed to successfully augment love story part of the story with the match fixing and stuff. The main flaw in the movie (or may be story) is the way in which Emran Hashmi dies in the end. Quality of direction is quite good till the first song.

Acting by Emraan Hashmi is OK as always.

Unlike other Emraan Hashmi movies, this movie doesn't focus on Extra Marital Affairs.

Karzzzz
(2008)

Not at par of Satish Kaushik
The aim of making this movie was to remake karz(1980) directed by Subhash Ghai. As one can easily see, the movie was meant to be a "Masala Movie" and it actually suffices many requirements.

Although music by Himesh was not all bad, first few songs, including Hari Om, are un-tolerable. A couple of songs are actually good including Ek Haseena Thi, which is directly taken from original movie Karz.

Satish Kaushik being a nice director, one cannot expect this kind of film from him. The major flaw in the direction was: in many scenes, focus was on "style" than on part of story that is supposed to be conveyed.

Even if he is not a classical singer, Himesh sung the song Ek Haseena Thi, well enough to compare his voice to original singer.
