Whatever your opinion may be of beloved Californian burger outlet In-N-Out, you can't deny the brand has quite the pull.
The chain opened a pop-up at a bar called Lover in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday, something which it regularly does around the world.
Of course, In-N-Out doesn't have stores much further than beyond the U.S. west coast and in Texas. It's famous for being very careful about expansion, concerned about the impact growth has on product quality.
Like other pop-ups gone by, In-N-Out stuck to the basics.
That's the burger, served double-double with the option of animal style (mustard fried onto the patty, pickles, grilled onions, and extra thousand island "spread.") or the bun-less protein style. Crisps replace fries, which is fair considering how notably *meh* the french fries are.
Despite the long wait for these pop-ups, locals lined up for a slice of California, with the pop-up open only between 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
But before 12 p.m., the pop-up had already sold out.
If you didn't get a wristband, no burger.
The packaging is mostly the same, down to the drink containers.
And yes, the burger looks exactly like the original.
For those who missed out, In-N-Out is undeniably great for a chain burger, but Melbourne is already home to a bundle of excellent burger spots (8-Bit, Royal Stacks, Huxtaburger, et al.)
New Yorkers were similarly disappointed last October when a fake In-N-Out pop-up made the rounds on social media. Everyone just wants a burger.
