Aims and Scope

Pediatric Rheumatology is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal encompassing all aspects of clinical and basic research related to pediatric rheumatology and allied subjects.

The journal’s scope of diseases and syndromes include musculoskeletal pain syndromes, rheumatic fever and post-streptococcal syndromes, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis, local and systemic scleroderma, Kawasaki disease, Henoch-Schonlein purpura and other vasculitides, sarcoidosis, inherited musculoskeletal syndromes, autoinflammatory syndromes, and others.

Co-Editor-in-Chief Tadej Avcin, MD, PhD, Professor of Pediatrics

Tadej Avcin is Head of Department of Allergology, Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at the Children's Hospital, University Medical Center Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Medicine (Slovenia). He studied medicine and pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and completed fellowship in pediatric rheumatology at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto (Canada). His clinical and research focuses are juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic connective tissue diseases, antiphospholipid syndrome and diseases of immune dysregulation. He has published more than 185 indexed publications and 19 book chapters on pediatric rheumatology and immunology. He is currently Secretary of the Paediatric Rheumatology European Association (PReS), past Chairman of the European League Against Rheumatism Standing Committee on Pediatric Rheumatology, and Member of the Advisory Council of Paediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organisation.

Co-Editor-in-Chief Angelo Ravelli, MD, Professor of Pediatrics

Angelo Ravelli, MD, is the Scientific Director of the Giannina Gaslini Institute of Genoa, Italy and a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Genoa, Italy. He has been the Director of the Division of Rheumatology at the Giannina Gaslini Institute (EULAR Centre of Excellence in Rheumatology) and of the Residency School in Pediatrics at the University of Genoa. He is President of the Pediatric Rheumatology European Society (PRES), President of the Network of Italian Pediatric Research Hospitals (Rete IDEA), Honorary Member of the European Alliance of the Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR), Past-President of the Italian Pediatric Rheumatology Society (ReumaPed), and Convenor of the EULAR Online Course in Paediatric Rheumatology. He has received the Gerolamo Gaslini Prize for Excellence in Research in 2004 and the Italian Knowledge Leader Award in 2023. He was the chairman of the International Consensus Conference that led to the development of the 2016 classification criteria for macrophage activation syndrome in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis and of the International Task Force that developed the recommendations for the treat-to-target strategy in juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
