Listen to GoldLink’s latest collaboration with Kaytranada and Jazmine Sullivan

After lending his voice to Kaytranada’s 2016 album 99.9%, D.C. rapper GoldLink called on the electro wunderkind to return the favor. On their new track “Meditation,” Kaytranada crafts a sunny synth melody that relies heavily on a flipped sample of his “TRACK UNO,” underscored by a wobbly bassline and a jittery hi-hat pattern. Rapping over it in double-time, GoldLink pays tribute to an exceptional woman with whom he has history and a future, if things go his way (“You the one, you the one now/After daughter, want a son now/Sundress to a wedding gown”). In between GoldLink’s verses, Jazmine Sullivan delivers an ace vocal performance, offsetting some of the song’s bawdiness with a heavenly hook and sweetening the production with soulful harmonies on the bridge. Rather than a call for peaceful introspection, “Meditation” is a bouncy, dancefloor-ready track with plenty of energy to go around.
