The Housemaid's Secret: A totally gripping psychological thriller with a shocking twist Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 189,483 ratings

“Don’t go in the guest bedroom.” A shadow falls on Douglas Garrick’s face as he touches the door with his fingertips. “My wife… she’s very ill.” As he continues showing me their incredible penthouse apartment, I have a terrible feeling about the woman behind closed doors. But I can’t risk losing this job—not if I want to keep my darkest secret safe…

It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.

It’s almost perfect. But I still haven’t met Mrs Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I’m sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I’m doing laundry. And one day I can’t help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes
everything

That’s when I make a promise. After all, I’ve done this before. I can protect Mrs Garrick while keeping my own secrets locked up safe.

Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He is going to pay. It’s simply a question of how far I’m willing to go…

This absolutely explosive and shockingly twisty sequel to international phenomenon and New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller The Housemaid will keep you racing through the pages late into the night. Anyone who loves The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose, The Woman in the Window and Gone Girl will be totally hooked!

This book can also be enjoyed as a standalone.

SPOILER review! TW: Almost Sa, Eating Disorder, Fat Phobic Remarks
My review below does mention briefly about some spoilers, trigger warning wise this one has a almost SA scene, fat phobic remarks, and eating disorders. I may have missed a few trigger warnings, if you’re interested in reading please google all trigger warnings.I put off reading this for a while because a lot of people were saying that the second book is better then the first and I have to say that I disagree, Millie’s character in The Housemaids secret isn’t as interesting as in The Housemaid. She came off as annoying at times and I just didn’t care for her character in this book. I didn’t really enjoy any other character other then Enzo, Enzo is my all time favorite character from this series, I’m glad he was brought back and I’m happy we are going to be getting more Enzo content in The Housemaid is watching.Something’s that annoyed me about this book is the repetitive way in which Millie says she being watched, I think it pops up like six times, surely their is another way you can say she feels she being watched or show that she is being watched. There are some trigger warnings for this one, a scene where Millie is almost Sa leads to an officer implying that it was because of the way she was dressed (pg 69) during part two of the book there is fat phobic comments and eating disorders. The romance with Brock feels a little unnecessary until the end but the way that Millie was leading him on all while knowing that she wasn’t ready for more and still loved Enzo is one of the reasons I didn’t particularly like her, Enzo leaves to take care of his mother who had declining health and Millie states multiple times that she is mad that he left but it’s literally his only family. The mystery/thrilling bits are different from the first story but at the same time they are still kind of similar, the mystery in general while interesting just wasn’t as hard hitting as the first book, I think I was just expecting a bit more after hearing so many comments about this book, Im hoping Millie’s character gets redeemed for me in the third book but at least I’ll get some more Enzo content. I hope we get some chapters from his perspective.

I’ve been in a reading slump for some time now and decided to pick up the housemaid. I read it in two days and immediately ordered the second one and it was just as addicting as the first! I couldn’t put it down. If you’re someone who likes playing detective and predicting plot twists, you will love this series. It’s fast, interesting, and has some wild turns! There is a love interest for those who prefer to have one, and some small character development. I haven’t read the third book yet but I will be soon. I’d like to see if Millie develops more as a character. These books are like crack!

Freida has done it once again! Shocking twists after twists! Of course I was hooked by the first book in the series, The Housemaid, but I completely devoured this one. This book war gripping and hard to put down. The ending though, I thought I had it figured out and knew how it was going to wrap up, but boy was I wrong, I love Millie's character and wanting to help, however home girl continues to get herself caught up in some creepy and even dangerous situations. I can't wait to read the next one! If you enjoy thrillers with some shocking twists, I definitely recommend this series.

Once we’ve moved on from the first jaw dropping off part, when it comes to book #2, there’s character development and McFadden explored Millie’s life and relationships.

However, when this was supposed to provide the MC with depth, it fails its purpose as it’s confuse and the relationship is completely unbelievable. Millie is gorgeous but I don’t find her relationship neither true nor passionate enough so as to buy it.

Moving on to the plot, this time Millie will deal with another woman in trouble and won’t be able to resist her urges to do something about it. Will she make it?

Even when there’s a lot invested in this book, it doesn’t make it to jaw dropping. So, go for it, it’s a good book but don’t expect to find yourself mesmerized as in book #1.

Just like the first in the series, this book is very hard to put down. I am about to start the third book and am hoping that there will be more coming.

The first book, "The Housemaid", is one of my favorite books I've ever read. I was hoping this sequel wouldn't be a rehash of the first, and it was not. Sure it has its similarities, but it's a new story with new twists. I never saw any of it coming. Then just when I thought things were wrapping up, there was one last twist at the end that really threw me for a loop. It did take a little longer for the story to amp up compared to the first book, but once it did, it didn't stop.
