Karnataka weather update: IMD predicts rain in Bengaluru for next five days, yellow alert issued

BENGALURU: The Indian Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted that Karnataka is expected to experience continued rainfall over the next week. Bengaluru will also witness light to moderate rains in various parts of the city until May 13, accompanied by a yellow alert.
CS Patil, a scientist at IMD, explained, “A trough or wind discontinuity is seen extending from Marathwada to Comorin across Interior Karnataka and Kerala at 0.9km above mean sea level.Besides, the cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea, off the coast of Kerala, is also pushing in with enough moisture and converging over parts of South Interior Karnataka and parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.”
"The rains in Karnataka will continue for the next one week and winds with 40-50 km per hour are also likely to occur. In Bengaluru, the moderate rains will continue, and the temperatures will see further dip. In Bengaluru, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will hover around 22 degrees Celsius over the next five days." senior IMD scientist Patil said.
Even as parts of Bengaluru witnessed heavy showers Saturday midnight, IMD officials said that was only a trailer. “There is a good probability of heavy rain over Bengaluru and adjoining districts such as Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Tumakuru and Ramanagara over the next five days,” Patil added.
He also emphasized that rainfall exceeding 7cm is anticipated across the state, with moderate rainfall persisting in Karnataka throughout May, despite the lack of rain in April.
Recently, Bengaluru recorded its lowest maximum temperature since March, following two months of relentless heat. The rains in Bengaluru also caused severe waterlogging, resulting in traffic congestion throughout the city. Even the terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport experienced waterlogging due to the heavy rains.
