mumbai: the city was abuzz with rumours about gangster chhota shakeel having been attacked outside dawood ibrahim's bungalow in karachi on saturday morning. while police commissioner m.n. singh did not confirm the news, police sources said there was a shootout in karachi on saturday in which a person died after being hit by two bullets on the head. but we are still to confirm whether he is chhota shakeel," an officer said on condition of anonymity.however, senior police officials keeping a tab on the underworld denied that shakeel was killed. meanwhile, the surat police recently foiled an attempt of the chhota shakeel gang to bomb police headquarters near crawford market in mumbai. the surat police was in mumbai about a fortnight ago in connection with investigations in a shootout case. they arrested two persons from bhendi bazaar. the suspects were identified as fayyaz and yaseem. "during the duo's interrogation, it was learnt that they were hired by shakeel to plant explosives at the police headquarters," a source said. it is also learnt that the duo had filmed the police headquarters on a video camera. "we suspect that they had entered the premises using fake press id cards.they had filmed the various departments in the building during a press conference, which is occasionally held in the police commissionerate," sources said.
