NEW DELHI: Noida Police seized 800 kgs of cannabis, worth approximately Rs 4 crore in the black market, and arrested three individuals involved in its transportation on Thursday. The cannabis was hidden in a truck along with 2,000 litres of pesticide, which the accused were transporting from Odisha.
Late Wednesday night, the truck was intercepted at the Sector 62 roundabout by Noida Police's Crime Response Team (CRT) and officials from the local Sector 58 police station.
"Three accused have been arrested by the CRT and Sector 58 team, and about eight quintals of ganja (worth Rs 4 crore) and pesticide (worth Rs 60 lakh) have been recovered from them. A truck and a vehicle have also been recovered from them," said DCP (Noida) Vidya Sagar Mishra.
According to Additional DCP (Noida) Manish Kumar Mishra, a Maruti Ciaz car was also impounded along with the truck. "This car worked as an escort vehicle for the truck, preceding the truck throughout their route to raise an alarm about any impending police or security check," he explained to reporters. ADCP Mishra also noted that the price of cannabis varies in the black market based on its quality, and the seized cannabis is of good quality.
The arrested individuals have been identified as gang leader Sudama Choudhary, Anish, and Praveen Paswan. Choudhary and Paswan are from Bhojpur, Bihar, while Anish is from Nuh, Haryana. DCP Mishra revealed that gang leader Sudama Choudhary had been previously arrested for similar offenses and was released from jail two months ago in connection with a case registered at Noida's Expressway Police Station.
The impounded truck is registered in Rajasthan, while the car is registered in Bihar. An FIR has been filed against the accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Sector 58 police station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
