Bokaro: A team of CBI's anti-corruption unit from Dhanbad arrested a loan recovery agent of a co-operative bank on charges of graft from near Kalibari in Sector 8 of Bokaro on Wednesday, sources said.
Dhanraj Chaudhary was nabbed when he was allegedly accepting payment to release an impounded tractor of a customer, who had earlier defaulted on a vehicle loan. Chaudhary reportedly demanded additional payment for the vehicle's release even after receiving bank clearance, prompting the borrower to contact CBI.
Meanwhile, a crowd assembled at the site and attempted to prevent the arrest. Three CBI officers sustained minor injuries in the altercation.
Chaudhary was transported to Bokaro Niwas for interrogation and a complaint registered against him at the Harla police station.
The CBI sleuths found the tractor and case-related documents at Chaudhary's Sector 9-based residence.
Bokaro SP Manoj Swargyari said, "CBI has lodged an FIR at Harla police station in the matter."
The CBI's public relations officer declined to comment.
