VISAKHAPATNAM: Approximately five lakh voters residing outside Andhra Pradesh, including four lakh from Telangana, are anticipated to participate in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in AP on Monday. The polls will be conducted concurrently for 175 Assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies. Apart from first timers and unemployed youth, these migrant voters are expected to write the fate of many candidates.
A significant number of these voters have already reached their hometowns and villages, primarily from Hyderabad and its surrounding areas, as well as from other districts in Telangana such as Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, and Medak.
It is estimated that between 12 to 15 lakh people from the Rayalaseema and Andhra regions are currently residing in Telangana, with the majority concentrated in Hyderabad and its vicinity. Approximately five to six lakhs of these individuals are registered voters in Telangana, and their presence is felt in 40 to 45 Assembly constituencies in Telangana. Six to eight lakh people from AP living in Telangana have their votes registered in their native towns and villages in AP.
Over three lakh people from Hyderabad alone are expected to cast their votes in their native places in AP and political parties believe that these voters will have an impact on 70 to 80 assembly constituencies across Rayalaseema, Nellore, Prakasam, Godavari districts, and the North Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh.
The majority of these voters are employed as construction workers, apartment watchmen, daily wage laborers, and workers in hotels and markets. According to sources, educated voters account for around 35% of the total number, a senior manager in a private firm in Hyderabad A Subrahmanyam said.
