Arvind Kejriwal ED arrest highlights: Delhi Court to consider ED's chargesheet against Kejriwal, AAP on May 20

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday claimed the entire country is seething in anger against the BJP and will end its "dictatorial" rule on June 4, the counting day of the Lok Sabha polls. Addressing several street meetings at different locations in West Delhi, he claimed the BJP would soon arrest AAP leaders such as Raghav Chaddha, Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj to crush the opposition.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary compared Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and alleged that he took out money from the treasury while in power.Samrat Choudhary said, "Arvind Kejriwal first cheated Anna Hazare, then he cheated the people of Delhi. He cheated the women of Delhi. He took money from liquor traders and changed the system. He increased the commission. This is called organised crime. The fodder scam was also similar to this. Taking out money from the treasury. I think Arvind Kejriwal has learnt the method of corruption from former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav. First, he committed an organised crime, and took out money from the treasury while in power in the state." (ANI)

“They (BJP) accuse us of scams worth Rs 100 crore, but they have not found a single penny. They put Sanjay Singh and me in jail. They have even put my PA (Bibhav Kumar) in jail. Now they are saying that they will put Raghav Chadha, Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj in jail. Is he (PM Modi) the Prime Minister or ‘thanedar’?” said Kejriwal (PTI)

"Modi Ji arrested me because I built Hospitals- Mohalla Clinics for you and provided you free treatment.Modi ji cannot do all this.The biggest irony is that I treated the entire Delhi for free, I am a diabetic patient but they did not allow me to take insulin in the jail.I don't know what he wanted to do with me?" asked Kejriwal

There is a lot of anger against him among the people across the country.BJP will get so few seats that no one would have even imagined it.If you love me then you will ensure that every single vote in your street and neighbourhood is cast for AAP,"

During a press conference, Kejriwal claimed that the BJP wants to put prominent AAP leaders including Raghav Chadha, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Atishi behind bars.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that he, along with the top leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party, will march to the BJP headquarters at noon on May 19 and dared the Prime Minister to arrest anyone he wants. During a press conference, Kejriwal claimed that the BJP wants to put prominent AAP leaders including Raghav Chadha, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Atishi behind bars.

'Prime Minister, are you arresting us one by one? Arrest all of them at once,' said the Delhi CM.

The Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday fixed May 20 for consideration on ED's Supplementary chargesheet (prosecution complaint) filed against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as accused in connection with a money laundering case related to Excise Policy case.The Special Judge Kaveri Baweja on Saturday fixed the matter for Monday for arguments and ED's submissions on cognizance point.On Friday Enforcement Directorate officials along with Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Naveen Kumar Matta along with two ED officials filed the chargesheet in Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi.

The CM was earlier called the "kingpin and key conspirator" of the Delhi excise "scam" by the ED. It was alleged that he acted in collusion with Delhi government minister, AAP leaders and others.

The Enforcement Directorate is "functioning like a political wing of the BJP" and the intention of the excise policy case probe is to "frame" the AAP, the Aam Aadmi Party alleged on Friday. Its reaction came after the directorate filed a fresh charge-sheet in the case, naming Arvind Kejriwal and his AAP as accused. This is the first time that a sitting chief minister and a political party face money laundering charges.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday filed a supplementary chargesheet (prosecution complaint) against naming Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as accused in connection with a money laundering case related to the Excise Policy case.The ED officials, along with Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Naveen Kumar Matta, filed the chargesheet at the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi.Last week, the Enforcement Directorate, during the hearing of Manish Sisodia's bail in the Delhi High Court, informed that the Aam Aadmi Party will also be made accused in the case and supplementary chargesheet.The Special Judge, Kaveri Baweja, is to take up the matter today.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to finish off Indian democracy and was taking the country towards dictatorship. Speaking at a rally of the opposition's INDIA bloc in Mumbai ahead of the May 20 voting for the six Lok Sabha constituencies in the city and elsewhere in Maharashtra, the AAP leader claimed that Modi's policy was "if you can't defeat opponents, arrest them." Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said at the rally at the BKC ground that there was an undercurrent against the Modi-led government, and that is why the PM is afraid. Modi was not paying attention to employment generation and controlling of inflation, he claimed. NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar said on this occasion that Maharashtra knows that Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray helped Modi in his difficult times, but the prime minister has forgotten that now. The rally was also addressed by Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. Earlier, speaking at a rally at Bhiwandi near Mumbai, Kejriwal claimed that if the BJP won the elections, it will send Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray to jail.

During INDIA alliance rally, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal says, " When PM Modi came to power in 2014, he made a rule that in BJP, a leader who reaches the age 75 will be made to retire...next year PM Modi will be 75 so naturally he will retire. When I said this at first, all the BJP leaders started saying that PM Modi won't retire but PM Modi said nothing. He will retire and Amit Shah will be made the PM...Yogi Adityanath will be removed within 2 months, he won't be (UP) CM anymore and when I said so, no BJP leader said otherwise...if BJP wins on 4th June, Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray and Aaditya Thackeray will also go to jail

The federal agency had arrested 55-year-old Kejriwal, also the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, from his official residence here on March 21. He is currently out of jail on interim bail. Overall this is the eighth chargesheet filed by the ED in this case in which it has arrested 18 people so far. Last week, a similar complaint was filed by the agency against BRS leader and former Telangana chief minister Chandrashekar Rao's daughter K Kavitha and four others.

The Enforcement Directorate on Friday filed a charge sheet against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam, and also named his Aam Aadmi Party as accused. The prosecution complaint has been filed before a special court here and the accused have been sought to be charged under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), sources said.

The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its order on a plea of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and his subsequent remand in the Delhi excise policy case.

ED officials along with Special Public Prosecutors reached Delhi Rouse Avenue Court to file supplementary chargesheet (prosecution complaint) in Delhi excise policy case. This is the Eighth chargesheet in the matter filed by Enforcement Directorate. According to the ED, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party names are mentioned as accused in this chargesheet. This is the first chargesheet filed against Delhi chief minister.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday likened the situation in the country to that in Russia, claiming there is a "dictatorship", and opposition leaders are being put in jail. Kejriwal was addressing Punjab Aam Aadmi Party workers and leaders, including MLAs and MPs, asking them to put in their best to ensure the party's victory in all 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state. He slammed the BJP, accusing it of putting all rival party leaders in jail. "The dictatorship that is going on in our country is not acceptable. India has never seen such a period in the past 75 years -- putting opposition leaders in jail," the AAP chief said.

The Supreme Court on Friday sought the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) response by May 20 on former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren's plea seeking interim bail in a money-laundering case for campaigning in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta also asked the federal agency to file a short reply on Soren's plea against his arrest and listed the matter before a vacation bench on May 21.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing in the court on behalf of Soren, said if granted interim bail, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader will surrender on June 2.

"There is no material against me in the case. Elections will be over if not granted interim bail," Sibal said.

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of opposing the scheme in AAP-ruled Delhi guaranteeing free bus rides for women, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday questioned why women can't avail free bus rides when the former and other ministers enjoy free air travel.

Taking to his official handle on X, the Delhi CM and AAP supremo, who is currently out on interim bail in connection with the liquor policy case, posted, "The Prime Minister is openly opposing the free bus travel being provided to women in Delhi. Women want free bus rides to be introduced across the country but Modi-ji wants to end it. If the prime minister and her ministers can avail free air travel, why can't women across the country get free bus travel."

The AAP chief also shared a video clip of Prime Minister Modi's interview with a television news channel where he is heard expanding on how offering free bus rides was economically non-viable.

In the video, PM Modi is heard explaining that if the government offers free bus rides in a city that has a dedicated Metro service, in a bid to win elections, it takes away 50 per cent of passengers availing the Metro service.

"If you have a dedicated Metro service in the city and offer free bus rides to women just for the sake of winning elections, it means that you are taking away 50 per cent of the Metro passengers. So, the Metro will no longer be a viable commuting option for people," Prime Minister Modi is heard saying in the video.

He adds that making bus rides lucrative for passengers also contributes to traffic congestion in the city while also spiking vehicular emissions and environmental pollution.

"You are adding to the traffic woes while also bringing long-term harm to the environment by taking passengers away from the Metro. How will our Metro service prosper and the country move forward?" Prime Minister said in the interview.

The AAP government in the national capital provides free rides for women, students, senior citizens and people from the transgender community on state-run DTDC buses.

Attacking the BJP, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the "dictatorship" allegedly going on in the country is unacceptable and the nation has never seen such a period in the past 75 years.

Kejriwal was addressing Punjab AAP workers and leaders, including MLAs, in Amritsar and asked them to put in their best to ensure AAP's victory in all the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.

He slammed the BJP, accusing it of putting all rival party leaders in jail.

"The dictatorship that is going on in our country is not acceptable. India has never seen such a period in the past 75 years, putting opposition leaders in jail," said Kejriwal.

He even sought to liken the situation in India with that of Russia.

"Like in Russia, (Vladimir) Putin had either sent all rival leaders in jail or got them killed and then conducted the elections and got 87 per cent votes. When there is no opposition, you will be the only one who will get votes," he said.

"They put me in jail, (former Delhi deputy CM) Manish Sisodia was put in jail, Congress party's bank account was attached, (they) are troubling TMC, (Tamil Nadu CM MK) Stalin's ministers have been put in jail.

"Put everyone in jail. Then only one party and one leader will remain but democracy will not survive. We do not have to let this happen," said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal came to Punjab on Thursday and held a roadshow in support of AAP's Amritsar candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal.

As Enforcement Directorate contended that Arvind Kejriwal should not be given special treatment by entertaining his plea challenging his arrest, Supreme Court on Thursday said no exception was made for the Delhi chief minister in hearing his petition and granting him interim bail and added that it had refused to hear him when he first approached immediately after his arrest.

The Home Minister took a dig at Arvind Kejriwal's campaign saying that people would only remember the Liquor scam when they saw him campaigning.

"I think wherever he'll go for the poll campaign, the people will remember the liquor scam, even in Punjab. People will also see big bottles in front of them when they see Kejriwal."

Arvind Kejriwal has launched several attacks on the BJP after his release from jail. He was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court till June 1 in a money laundering case related to the now-scraped Delhi excise policy.

The polling for the National Capital is scheduled for May 20 in the fifth phase. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases in a six-week marathon running from April 19 to June 1. The counting results will be declared on June 4.

Home Minister Amit Shah slammed Arvind Kejriwal over his "won't have to go to jail if you vote for me" appeal to the public during a roadshow earlier this week in Amritsar and said that there can be "no bigger contempt of the Supreme Court than this."

In an interview with ANI, Amit Shah questioned Kejriwal's campaign plea "There can be no bigger contempt (of the Supreme Court) than this. Will the Supreme Court make decisions on crime based on (electoral) victory or defeat? I am not saying it; Kejriwal ji is saying it."

"I have not heard it (Arvind Kejriwal's remarks). You said I read it in the newspaper. But, if he has said so, then it is a very wrong comment on the functioning of the Supreme Court, " Shah added.

He was responding to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's "If you vote for me, I will not have to go to jail" remark.

SC to hear Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging a high court order which upheld his arrest in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

The question round of a joint press conference by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and AAP president Arvind Kejriwal ended abruptly when the Delhi CM chose to remain silent regarding the alleged assault of his party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Swati Maliwal, by his trusted aide Bibhav Kumar at the Delhi CM’s official residence.The press meet, billed to be an important foray by Kejriwal outside Delhi after he was released by the Supreme Court own interim bail, did not go as planned, with reporters questioning the Delhi CM about the alleged attack on Maliwal by his aide. Kumar had accompanied Kejriwal to Lucknow.
