Cabinet clears new terminal & runway extension at Varanasi airport
New Delhi: Modi 3.0's first Cabinet meeting Wednesday approved a major expansion plan for the airport at the PM's parliamentary constituency - Varanasi. The airport's capacity will be doubled by building a new terminal and expanding the runway, at a cost of around Rs 2,870 crore.
Once complete, Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport will see its annual passenger handling capacity rise from 39 lakh to 99 lakh.

"The Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved the proposal of AAI for the development of LBSIA, including construction of new terminal, apron and runway extension, and parallel taxi track," a govt statement stated.
Spread over 75,000 square metres, the new terminal building will have an annual passenger handling capacity of 60 lakh, with a peak hour capacity of 5,000 flyers. Like Ayodhya, the new terminal will "offer a glimpse of the city's cultural heritage."
