NEW DELHI: A metal parking lift collapsed and a massive hoarding collapsed in Mumbai on Monday, injuring several who were rushed to hospital. The incidents occured as the city was hit sudden dust storm, gusty winds and heavy rains.
The incident occurred at Barkat Ali Naka on the busy Wadala- Antop Hill Road. Fire brigade and police helped with rescue operations at the spot.
A video of the incident has gone viral which shows the multi-storey under-construction metal parking tower coming crashing down on the busy road.
Rains coupled with gusty winds were witnessed in the suburbs of Dadar, Kurla, Mahim, Ghatkopar, Mulund and Vikhroli, while parts of south Mumbai saw drizzles. The satellite towns of Thane, Ambernath, Badlapur, Kalyan and Ulhasnagar also received moderate showers with gusty winds.
Nafees Khan, who was parking his tempo on the road, was also injured in it.
Seven people are jnjured after a hoarding fell on the roof of Police Ground Petrol Pump on Eastern express Highway near Pant Nagar at around 4.30 pm. While the police and ambulance are mobilised, the Mumbai Fire Brigade mentioned that the rescue process is still on. Some people are likely to be trapped. The injured have been rushed to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar East. Condition is awaited.
Due to hoarding collapse at Ghatkopar, traffic movement was slow at Kamraj Nagar on north bound arm, said Mumbai traffic police.
Meanwhile, incidents of trees falling due to gusty wind amid unseasonal rain were reported from several areas in Mumbai. Traffic on roads moved slowly while water-logging was also reported at some places.
Power cuts were witnessed in several parts of the city following the dust storm and rain, and this inconvenienced several residents, especially those who were unable to use lifts which faced continuous fluctuation in power.
Maharashtra saw dust storm and rain showers on Monday evening. After initial dust storm, rain was reported in Thane and Navi Mumbai. Dust storm occured near Mantralay.
