'It affected our batting line up': Delhi Capitals' assistant coach rues Rishabh Pant's absence in loss to RCB

Delhi Capitals' assistant coach Pravin Amre admits batting depth issues, highlighting Rishabh Pant's absence. Confident of Pant's return for the next match, he anticipates a stronger finish. Amre also questions the IPL's high-scoring trend, urging the governing body's scrutiny. In the match, RCB's 187/9 was too much for DC, despite Hope and Patel's efforts, securing RCB's fifth consecutive win.

NEW DELHI: In the aftermath of Delhi Capitals' defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League 2024 on Sunday, assistant coach Pravin Amre acknowledged the team's lack of depth in batting, particularly the absence of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant.
The 55-year-old confirmed that as Pant will be returning in the next match the batting will finish the game well.

"The way he is playing this year he is the highest run gutter during the year but rules are rules. We missed him because of the rule. It affected our batting line up and sure tomorrow, he will be there, and we will finish well," Amre said.

Amre also expressed his surprise at the high-scoring nature of the tournament, with teams amassing 500 runs in a single T20 match.
"I feel IPL's governing body will look into it. It is also important to know that for the crowd it was surprising to see teams scoring 500 runs in a T20 match. That's happened in IPL. So, the committee will decide what is better for IPL," the assistant coach added.
In the match, RCB posted a total of 187/9 in their 20 overs, thanks to contributions from Rajat Patidar (52), Will Jacks (41), Cameron Green (32*), and Virat Kohli (27). Rasikh Salam (2/23) and Khaleel Ahmed (2/31) were the standout bowlers for DC.

Chasing 188 runs, Delhi found themselves in trouble at 30/4 before a 56-run partnership between Shai Hope (29) and stand-in captain Axar Patel (57) brought them back into the game. However, RCB's bowlers, led by Yash Dayal (3/20) and Lockie Ferguson (2/23), restricted DC to 140 runs in 19.1 overs, securing a 47-run victory.

RCB's fifth consecutive win has propelled them to fifth place on the points table, a remarkable turnaround considering their position three weeks ago. With 12 points and the potential to reach 14, they have a chance to qualify for the playoffs, depending on the results of other matches involving SRH and LSG, who can both reach 16 points.
