That Cable

Sorry if this question sounds a little daft, I'm in England and the Cube is not out over here yet. Does the link cable allow you to run Gameboy advance games via the GBA and cable onto your TV. Like pokemon via the N64 but with this time with any game at all? In short does it allow you to play GBA games on ya tele?

This is probably the most asked question I get, besides "WhEN iz Nitendno gonna RELEAISE POEKMAN for GAM Boy ADV.?" The Game Boy Advance/GameCube cable isn't some happy magical device...all it does is allow the GBA to connect to the GameCube. The GBA and GameCube games have to be written with the cable in mind to take advantage of it...otherwise the game won't even know the cable is connected. The GBA's link port is extremely slow, like 3K a second, so there's no way that it's fast enough to instantly get the Game Boy Advance's four-to-eight megabyte game cartridge transferred to the GameCube to play it up on the big screen. The cable is made to transmit small packets of data...like basic data from the GBA cartridge, or a minigame from the GameCube to the GBA.

I feel two feet tall.

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this. I just completed construction of a giant 3 foot tall fully playable GameBoy. Check it out: http://gameman.loungespot.com. Thanks for all the great game reviews on ign over the years.

Nono, thank you for spending a few months on a system that's cool to look at.

This Job

I know this isn't really a GBA-related question, but I was looking through the mailbag archive and read something about Craig doing 99.9% of the work on this site and it got me thinking. I've often wondered how one becomes a video game reviewer. What qualifications are required? How do you "break in"? Does it pay the bills or do video game reviewers have day jobs too? If all it takes is the ability to play video games and write witty and insightful critiques of them, sign me up! :)

Matt McCollow

This is my full-time job. I used to be a burger-flipping, videogame-selling, beta-game testing, bug report-writing gamer in my past...but I finally found my calling. The qualifications are simple: write well, and get lucky. I wouldn't be sitting here today if I didn't fall into the right place at the right time. And it certainly pays the bills...but we're in San Francisco, so don't think my paycheck's taking me to Pierre's Lobster House every night.

But what's "witty"?

Tony 2 or Tony 3?

I already have THPS2, so is it worth getting THPS3? Bear in mind that I have totally completed THPS2, (with all characters) so I fear I would find it too easy. Also, I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the apparantly excellent mulitplayer modes, as no one else I know has the game or plans to buy it (I assume it requires a game pak per person). Thanks for your help,

Arf

Tony Hawk 3 on the GBA is deeper and more challenging...and to unlock all the extras you have to play through the game multiple times. If you enjoyed Tony Hawk 2, then there's no reason why you won't like Tony Hawk 3. I'd buy it in a second...which is why I gave it a 9.6.

Those Locks

It seems lately that almost all media sources, especial the image, video, and audio sources are been locked. It would be great if not everything was locked!

Quentin Paras

You're right...it would be great. You know, it only costs five bucks to get everything unlocked. Pretty simple solution if you ask me! Wow, what a concept...actually paying for something you like. No way. That's unheard of!
