E3 2002: Triton Engine
It's what The User made to power Tron 2.0. But as we saw, the juicy, beefy, next-gen LithTech promises far more in its future.

- It powers Tron 2.0 Killer App.

I could leave and let the article rest at that, but there's a bit more to be said...

It's a colorful engine that glows.

There, now that's the end of it... Thanks for the Diet Pepsi.

Oh, I'm such a kidder. Not better than Jupiter, but just different is Triton, the underlying technological foundation behind Tron 2.0, Triton is a separate piece of technology, one that's different enough from its No One Lives Forever 2 powering cousin to warrant a separate licensing fee if used, but similar enough to not be the next-generation version. Yes, I too did not know this.

Why would anyone go Triton if they could go Jupiter then? Because Triton is for the sci-fi developer. The ones who want edges, colors, metal sheen, and glowing things.

That's right, what differentiates Triton from Jupiter most is the glow effect. Anyone who has played a bit of Totally Games' Bridge Commander will probably recognize the way the lights fuzzily glow. Taking lines and building an effect out of a texture, the glow adds a bit of depth and softness where needs. It's what lights up the glow that signifies what kind of program the inhabitant's of Tron's world are. Not a puff, the glow can be any shape or size. What's also cool about the glow is that a few days ago they didn't even have it implemented.

I wrote another five paragraphs about the glow, but they were edited out by a surly boss of mine with some kind of inherent disposition to despise soft and fuzzy glowing things.

No one has yet licensed the Triton engine because it is not currently available (unfinished and all), but I'm sure anyone who wants to rip off Tron will jump at the chance.

More information on Triton will come hand-in-hand with whatever we write on Tron, so look out disc boy.

By the way, one of the weapons in Tron is a kind of large stick that breaks into two hot dog tong looking things. Just so you know.

The bad boys are in the house, yo.
