Wikinfo:Bug reports

from Wikinfo, an internet encyclopedia

This is a new bug reports list for GetWiki 1.0 and following. The site was upgraded/redesigned on 13 January, 2004. Please see Wikinfo:Bug reports/Resolved 1 for resolved bugs/requests.

I was unable to upload the article Safari browser.png after I changed its name on my computer (mac system 9.1) to shorten it from Safari browser self-portrait (small).png (mac will not have a name that long). This image goes in the article recursion. When I try to upload it I get this error message, "There is a problem with "Safari_browser.png": Please try again." This does not happen with all images, but does with this one. FJB 17:01, 22 Mar 2004 (EST)

I don't think that's a bug, although it could be programmed out. It looks like it has to do with spaces in the filename not being filled with "_". In the process of uploading, the webserver converts the spaces to "%20"'s and that means the filename is now something different from what you've tried to upload. So, rename the file with no spaces at all, which is always good practice anyway, and try again. Tell me if that works... -proteus 17:51, 22 Mar 2004 (EST)

Also, only regular numbers, letters and dashes should be used in filenames. -proteus 18:22, 22 Mar 2004 (EST)

Now it uploads, but get his error message, "The image “http://www.internet-encyclopedia.org/upload/a/ad/Safari_browser.png”; cannot be displayed, because it contains errors." FJB 18:08, 22 Mar 2004 (EST)

Your file is zero bytes - no data. At least that's what uploaded. I reuploaded it under both names, and now it seems to work fine. Talk about recursion :) -proteus 18:22, 22 Mar 2004 (EST)

Using GetWiki I edited dacha, as the stub notice was inappropriate I changed it. But upon saving GetWiki brought in (automatically) the original version of the article and pasted it below the edited version. FJB 08:55, 26 Mar 2004 (EST)

Yes, I've noticed that happens when showing a preview of an unsaved imported article, but not when changes are made and saved without previewing. I think it is an overlap of how MW and GW treat previews, as in MW, there would be no preview unless the article existed, but in GW, an imported article can be obviously be previewed and edited before saving. I'll look into it. -proteus 09:43, 26 Mar 2004 (EST)

Could you compare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Extended_image_syntax with Wikinfo:Extended_image_syntax? It seems things work somewhat differently. FJB 08:33, 1 Apr 2004 (EST)

Also compare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Picture_tutorial with Wikinfo:Picture_tutorial Again some features, such as align right, or resizing of images, don't seem to work here. FJB 09:33, 1 Apr 2004 (EST)

Please see the image policy, which explains... -proteus 18:05, 1 Apr 2004 (EST)
