MiKTeX 2.4 has been released in November 2003.

Please read this announcement to learn what is new in version 2.4.

Special Considerations

In order to experience a smooth transition, you should consider the following points when upgrading from a previous MiKTeX version:

• etex is now the default engine when running the LaTeX format.
• The MiKTeX configuration files (i.e., miktex.ini and formats.ini) have changed in incompatible ways. Local versions of these files might cause problems. You should therefore allow the update wizard to push local versions of these files aside.
• The update wizard must be run two times: the first run updates basic executables (including the update wizard itself); the second run installs the remaining packages.

Upgrading: you use the update wizard to install the new packages. The wizard must be run two times: the first run updates the wizard itself; the second run installs the remaining packages.
