In the past we were forced to moderate all anonymous comments because of spam. Now we installed an anti-spam system and we hope that it will do its job well, therefore we enabled unmoderated anonymous comments again. Any comment you make will now be published automatically. Many articles published at Wikinerds Portal that were written by NSK before 8 September 2005 were available only under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 licence. Now, NSK would like to announce the grant of an additional GNU Free Documention Licence for CCL-licensed content he wrote; please read the full announcement. This means that you now have greater freedom if you wish to reuse any article authored by NSK. This does not apply to articles written by other authors.

We migrated Wikinerds Portal to a better template engine based on PHP and a better theme which uses PHP. As a user, you will notice that our site is faster. However, this migration came at a price: There are some bugs here and there and cause some minor problems. We will fix them soon, and we will be happy to receive bug reports. NSK already fixed one of these bugs. After we fix all the bugs, we will work on a custom theme which hopefully will be much nicer.

UPDATE: As of 7 August 2005 all bugs seem to be fixed. If you you, however, notice any just contact us.

On 25 July 2005 we launched Planet Wiki, an online news aggregator that collects various RSS feeds from many wiki sites in one easy-to-read HTML page. You can access the Planet Wiki through the following URL: http://planetwiki.wikinerds.org/

We just updated our website software engine, Drupal, to the last version. You may notice some erroneous display or minor problems here and there, but in general it should work ok. The most serious problems you will probably notice is the lack of print-friendly page output functionality (we are working on it to make it work with the new version) and some unneeded text on the sidebars. We would like you to let us know of any other bug or problem you may encounter. If you have anything to say you may leave a comment or send an e-mail to NSK.

According to BBC, a software engineer in UK decided to set up a security system using a webcam, and it worked perfectly when it recorded images of a burglar who stole his computer. The crystal-clear images of the 19-year old criminal's face allowed the police to sentence him to 11 months in jail. The software engineer used free software as well as custom code he wrote by himself to make the webcam detect motion and send images to his e-mail address. The police discovered that the burglar had been convicted to theft in 13 previous incidents and had stolen more than 5700 Euro in computer equipment from people's homes.
