Reading Rooms
The National Library of Scotland has four reading rooms in two buildings. Books and journals are housed in both buildings and transferred (via a regular van service) to the appropriate reading room on request. Readers are encouraged to use the preordering service where appropriate (see under individual reading rooms for further information). Library material should be consulted in the relevant reading room, according to the subject coverage outlined below.
George IV Bridge Building
- General Reading Room (journals, newspapers, and most post-1800 printed books not covered by the specialist reading rooms)
- North Reading Room (manuscripts, pre-1801 printed material, printed books from special collections, and photographs)
- Ground Floor Reading Room (microforms, multimedia, current Scottish electoral registers, resources for people with disabilities)
