ANZAC DAY CEREMONIES IN AUSTRALIA 2005

Information below is about the major Anzac Day ceremonies in Australia in 2005:

AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

Canberra

The National Anzac Day Dawn Service will be held at 5:30-6:00am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Treloar Crescent, Campbell. This will be followed by a cooked Australian breakfast in Anzac Hall. The breakfast costs $33 per person or $29 for Friends of the Memorial. Bookings are essential, please phone (02) 6269 8901.

The Anzac Day Ceremony begins at 10:15am at the Australian War Memorial and guests are asked to arrive at 10:00am. For maps of where to park and for information about shuttle buses, please visit the Australian War Memorial website http://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/anzac/program.asp

NEW SOUTH WALES

PLEASE NOTE: there will be numerous Anzac Day services held throughout New South Wales and not all events are listed below. Please contact your local RSL for details of events in your area.

Bega

There will be an Anzac Day Dawn Service at 6:00am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Bega War Memorial. This will be followed by an ecumenical service at 9:00am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The Anzac Day March will begin at 11:00am and will be followed by a service at the War Memorial.


Lismore

The Anzac Day Dawn Service March will begin at 5:00am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the old post office (on Molesworth Street) and will arrive shortly after at the Cenotaph, where the Dawn Service will begin. The public are welcome to walk from the post office to the Cenotaph and are asked to arrive at the post office by 4:45am. The service will be followed by a breakfast at the Lismore and District Workers Club.

The Anzac Day March will begin at 9:00am (form up at 8:30) starting from the Browns Creek car park. This will be followed by a luncheon at 11:30am at the Lismore and District Workers Club at a cost of $10.

Liverpool

An Anzac Day Dawn Service March will begin at 4:45 on Monday 25 April 2005 from the George Street entrance to the War Memorial in Bigge Park where the Dawn Service will be held. This will be followed by a breakfast at 6:00am at the John Edmondson VC Memorial Servicemen's Club. Parking is available at the Servicemen's Club. Those interested in attending should contact the City of Liverpool RSL Sub-Branch on (02) 9822 4555.


Newcastle

There will be an Anzac Day Dawn Service at 5:10am on Monday 25 April 2005 at Nobbys Beach. As parking is limited, guests are urged to arrive early.

At 10:00am there will be an Anzac Day service in Civic Park on King Street. There is parking available on Hunter and Auckland Streets, which are close to rail and bus services. Train and buses will run on the public holiday timetable.


Parramatta

An Anzac Day Dawn Service will be held at 4:30am on Monday 25 April 2005 at Prince Albert Park, Victoria Road, Parramatta. This will be followed by a breakfast at the Parramatta RSL Club. Parking is available at the RSL Club. Anyone interested in attending should contact Mr Bob Durbin, Secretary of the Parramatta RSL Sub-Branch on

Sydney

The Anzac Day Dawn Service will begin at 4:30am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Cenotaph at Martin Place. PLEASE NOTE: the public is asked to arrive by 3:45am, as large crowds are expected. For further information please contact Mr Ron Brown, President of the Anzac Day Dawn Trust on (02) 9759 3624 (Mon/Wed/Fri) or fax (02) 9759 6902.

Other services on Anzac Day include:

8:30am Wreathlaying service at the Cenotaph;
9:00am Anzac Day March starting at the Cenotaph in Martin Place;
12:10pm Commemorative service at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park; and
5:00pm Sunset Service at the Cenotaph in Martin Place.

Kings Parking at No.1 Martin Place (next to Westin Hotel) has a flat rate of $20 and is open 24hrs. Other parking is available between 9:00am-11:00pm at 383 Kent Street for a flat rate of $12.


Wollongong

An Anzac Day Dawn Service will be held at 4:45am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Cenotaph. Anyone interested in attending should contact the City of Wollongong RSL Sub-Branch on (02) 4225 9818 (Thurs/Fri).

At 10:00am there will be an Anzac Day March from the Steelers Stadium to the Town Hall followed by a commemoration service. During the march there will be a fly-past.

Cairns

An Anzac Day Dawn Service will be held at 6:00am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Edge Hill RSL. There will be an Anzac Day service at 9:00am at the Cairns RSL. For more details please contact the Cairns RSL Club on (07) 4051 2280.


Mackay

There will be an Anzac Day Dawn Service at 5:00am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Cenotaph located on Alfred Street. For more details please contact the local RSL Club on (07) 4942 2142 or (07) 4957 6829.

There will be an Anzac Day Dawn Service and parade at 5:30am on Monday 25 April 2005 at Alma Bay. For more details please contact the local RSL Club on (07) 4758 1303.

There will be an Anzac Day Dawn Service at 6:00am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Strand. The Anzac Day March will leave at 9:30am from the Strand. For more details please contact the RSL Club on (07) 47814324.

TASMANIA

Hobart

The Anzac Day Dawn Service will be held at 6:00am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Cenotaph on the Domain. Parking is available at the Regatta Grounds next to the Cenotaph.

The Anzac Day March will commence at 11:00am from the corner of Elizabeth and Macquarie Streets next to the Town Hall, and will arrive at the Hobart Cenotaph on the Domain. On conclusion of the march at approximately 11:00am there will be a commemorative ceremony. Those wishing to attend should arrive by 10:50am.

Launceston

The Anzac Day Dawn Service will begin at 5:50am on Monday 25 April 2005 at the Royal Park Cenotaph. The service will conclude at 6:15am.

The Anzac Day March will begin at 10:15am from Prince's Square, Charles Street, and will arrive at the Cenotaph at Royal Park at approximately 11:00am. A commemorative service will follow and is expected to conclude at 12:15pm.

Parking is available for the general public at Patterson Street West car park from 5:30am until 12:30pm at a cost of $2.

VICTORIA

Melbourne

There will be an Anzac Day Dawn Service at 6:00am on Monday, 25 April 2005 at the Shrine of Remembrance forecourt (on the lawns between St Kilda Road and Birdwood Avenue). This will be followed by a gunfire breakfast provided by the Australian Defence Force School Catering at 6:30am at Linlithgow Avenue (100m north of Government Drive) and costs $2 per person.

There will be an Anzac Day March starting at 8:50am on Swanston Street, near the Flinders Street Station.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

PLEASE NOTE: There will be Dawn Services and parades held in the major regional centres of Albany, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie, as well as in most metropolitan areas and country towns. Please contact your local RSL Club (click here for contact details of RSL clubs in Western Australia) for information about services in your local area.


Perth

An Anzac Day Dawn Service will be held at 6:00am on Monday 25 April 2005 in the State War Memorial Precinct. The precinct encompasses the State War Memorial Obelisk, Court of Contemplation, the Eternal Flame of Remembrance and the Pool of Reflection.

The Anzac Day March through Perth's CBD will begin at 9:20am, and will move through Barrack Street, St Georges Terrace and Victoria Avenue, concluding at Langley Park. On conclusion of the march at approximately 11:00am, there will be an Anzac Day commemorative service.

Fremantle

There will be an Anzac Day Dawn Service at 5:35am on Monday 25 April 2005 at Monument Hill. There will be a march at 10:15am, followed by a short ceremony at the Esplanade Reserve along Essex Street. There will also be an Anzac Day Commemorative Exhibition of wartime memorabilia, photos, maps and artefacts at the Town Hall .
