Human and Civil Rights. This includes Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Rights
Human Rights:
As stated in the United Nation’s “Universal Declaration of Human Rights - Article 25”, the U.S. Green Party, one of more than eighty Green Parties internationally, calls for the global adoption of basic human rights. “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of [themselves] and of [their] family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond [their] control.” I will support the adoption of this article as not only International Law but also a law that is supported by the US government.
Gay and Lesbian Rights:
I will support full equality of rights for gays and lesbians. Civil Unions are a step in the right direction; unfortunately they do not give full rights to gays and lesbians. Same sex marriage will give gays and lesbians the 1,049 rights that are associated with marriage, civil unions do not give all of these rights.
This is a state issue and should not be considered a religious issue. The church does not have to perform these weddings. It is not about having LGBT weddings in church, it is about getting the same rights that opposite sex couples receive after being married.
Transgender:
I absolutely support the rights of all individuals to equality, independent of their Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and/or Expression. I will fight for non-compromising Transgender inclusion within Local, State and Federal (LGBT) legislation, policies and procedures.
Specifically I am a strong supporter of:
Inclusion of ìGender Identity or Expressionî within any Federal non-discrimination legislation such as the Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act [ENDA]
Inclusion of ìGender Identity or Expressionî within any Federal Hate Crime legislation such as the Local Law Enforcement Act [LLEA].
Working at the local, state and federal level to ensure that the Transgender inclusive safe school policies are raised, passed and implemented.
As the mysteries of genetics and the human body continually unfold, we learn that sexual identity is not as simple nor straightforward a concept as originally thought by the Medical profession. Consequently many transgender individuals fall within a legal limbo regarding their documentation and Federal categorization by agencies such as the Social Security Administration. It is important that any Federal legislation and/or policies recognize this dilemma and does not create a condition of ìun-documentedî or illegal status for the transgender community.
The Changing of the Constitution
The constitution was set up to give the people rights not to take away people’s rights. Whether the Government or the people support a right, the
Constitution should never be used to take away the rights of human beings no matter their color, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation.
