Canon's new Digital Rebel XTi has a 10-megapixel self-cleaning sensor, a bigger (2.5") and brighter LCD monitor with a 160° viewing angle, and 3 frames-per-second shooting with 27-frame burst capabilities. Pioneer PDP-5070HD
Pioneer has a "Plasma Persuasion" page on its web site with advice on how to "sell your spouse on HDTV." But their latest 50" plasma practically sells itself, with its deep blacks, accurate color decoding, and outstanding image quality. The TV has tons of inputs (including PC), dual-tuner PIP, and comes with detachable bottom speakers and a table stand.

Our office will be closed over the holidays, but the CNET tech guys are giving us their "nicest loaner laptop," the IBM ThinkPad R50e, so we can update mySimon with the latest and greatest products over the break. Though it's a couple years old, the CNET editors say the ThinkPad R50e is an excellent laptop and "a trusted friend for the traveler and the desk jockey" because it's sturdy, moderately priced, and has amazingly long battery life (5.5 hours!). Too bad we'll have to return it when we come back from vacation. More laptops.
