Japanese WM6 and Office Mobile 2007
06/06/2007
Microsoft today announced that Windows Mobile 6 (WM6), the latest version of its mobile operating system, will be available in Japanese. Devices using that from HTC, Sharp and Toshiba will be available in June.

Of greater significance to non-Japanese Windows Mobile users is the simultaneous announcement of Office Mobile 2007. This is the newest version of Office Mobile, and will be available as a free update starting Q3. This upgrade is compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0 touchscreen devices and all WM6 (Professional and Standard) handhelds and smart phones. Devices shipped with WM6 will have this new version of Office Mobile pre-installed from Q3.

This will allow Windows Mobile to open documents created with the desktop software Office 2007. Documents created using older versions of Office will still be supported by Office Mobile 2007. Another added feature is support for fax, which means that users who choose to receive their faxes via email will be able to open these fax documents too.

Look out for more information and screenshots as these become available. The screenshot shown is that of the current version of Office Mobile.
